Skiing Sugar (And What We Learned) With Bill Bartee

Skiing Sugar (And What We Learned) With Bill Bartee

(From 1.28.23, Segment 1)This week Bill Bartee had the chance to head to Banner Elk & ski Sugar Mountain.  Along for the trip were daughters, Lake (15) & Mary Margaret (9).  Rentals & Ski passes & then we hit the mountain.  It wasn’t our first time so we didn’t need lessons.  However, we did note to ski within our capabilities, yielding to skiers coming down the mountain & communicating to others if we were passing on their right or left.  We outfitted & wore layers so that as we warmed we could take off the insulation that we didn’t need.

Fly-Fishing The East Fork Of The French Broad River

    (From 1.28.23, Segment 2)

A few months ago, Wes Lawson had clients on the East Fork of the French Broad River.  This multiple stream near Rosman, NC, has gone from a secret stream for locals to one of the state’s most popular delayed harvest streams.  Over 17,000 trout are stocked into this creek that flows just east of Pisgah National Forest.  This segment of the show has Wes giving Bill advice for an upcoming trip.  Remember this is western NC in winter.  Find out what Wes says about a fly fishing trip when it is cold.

    Outdoor Crimes Near & Far

    Outdoor Crimes Near & Far

    Segment 3 January 20, 2023

Outdoor crimes are happening and the Outdoor Guys from Jesse Brown’s are reporting the case.  First, a special forces trained adventurer & associates climbed the Merdeka 118, the world’s second tallest building in Kuala Lumpu, Malaysia, in May 2022.  The negative? Isaac Wright & team didn’t have permission.  Therefore they were arrested & charged for the daring undertaking.  Merdeka 118 is still under construction & set to be completed at 2,228 feet later this year.

That crime was topped (just because it was in the Carolinas) by a Watauga County man, Ronnie Hicks.  Hicks stole a John Deere tractor & drove recklessly throughout the community with police chasing at speeds up to….twenty miles per hour.

Of course, this area is great for hiking in the Carolinas, fly fishing in the Carolinas, & overall exploring the outdoors in a beautiful place.  However, we recommend it not be done on a stolen John Deere.
