    COVID-19 Workout - I Continue Working Out When It’s Coronavirus Outside? Host - Debra Spears

    How To Continue Working Out When It’s Cold (or now COVID-19) Outside Yes it’s Cold but Working Out is something we do even when it cold. But who wants to be outside running when the temperature is 30 degrees and a highly contagious virus is in the air. I know I don’t. So what can you do to stay on track with your weight loss or weight maintenance plan? Here is what I do: Try Power Walking the Local Mall If you can get there early in the morning before the stores open you will have an easy time completing several laps of power walking and make a few new friends along the way. As it turns out I am not the only one who found power walking early mornings in the local mall to be effective. Try Running At Your Local YMCA/YWCA If you can get in one, find the YMCA/YWCA or gym and do a few laps around the basketball court (preferably when there is not a game going on). Check the schedule to see what days have no basketball games scheduled. You may even find it fun to try shooting a few hoops yourself, it’s a great workout. See If Your Local Community Colleges Has An Indoor Track You can’t beat a good run around an indoor track with a partner or friend. I find them to be a great alternative to the local mall where power walking is the norm rather than running. Keep in mind that both will increase your heart rate, which is what you want, but the track run will get you there faster so your workout time will be shorter. Stairs Are Everywhere, Use Them Just run up and down a flight of stairs several times will give you a great indoor cardiac workout. Be sure to wear the right shoes. No one wants the painful experience associated with plantar fasciitis! Don’t Forget Floor Exercises Work Too If you do a plank hold every day you will reach a 2-minute hold very quickly. This exercise will not only help your heart but it also strengthens your core so you have fewer problems with back pain. Set a timer and go for it. I find that I can hold the position longer if I have a partner doing the same hold alongside me. There is something about competition that pushes us beyond what we thought we could do when alone. In addition to planks, I like to do push up. Just do something every day. It’s not the perfection that matters as much as the consistency. Do all the above to stay on track during the winter cold and maintain the healthy eating that we cover on our other episodes and you are bound to win!
