Religious institutions have groomed us to ask fewer questions and to be more fearful of difference. But questions give our lives meaning and help us understand more about God, ourselves, and the world. The Holy Shit Pod (THSP) is a jaw-dropping, belly-laughing conversation about the questions that many religious institutions avoid at all costs or fail to take seriously. With over 50 years of collective pastoral experience, Reverends Brandon T. Maxwell, Katie Ricks, and Samuel Lee White, III engage in candid conversations about faith, theology, healing from religious trauma, and becoming more fully human.

Why (White) Progressivism is the New Moderate
Nearly sixty years ago, Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote, "I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to 'order' than to justice..." In this episode, the HSP crew asks, "are white progressives the new moderates?" Listen in for a conversation about the limitations of white progressivism and how we forge ahead in the struggle for justice.

I Still Believe
I have to believe there’s something inside of me that enables me to just stand still...
while praying for my hard to beliefs.... I still believe in the God of Abraham,Issac and Jacob. The God of the Jews, The “some” oppressed, Blacks, browns, and whites.....
I still believe he sees and he knows... I surly believe his will shall be done... because if I don’t believe/know ...then where can I go...other than to the pit that “they” are in... and I surely don’t want to be in that pit.... that’s an awful place ‘to be’...
THSP is doing important work
I am so thankful for this podcast. It’s comedy, it’s insightful, it’s healing, it’s challenging, it’s my weekly sermon. I truly love every moment of every episode and believe the hosts are doing such important work for God’s people.
Insightful, funny, inspiring
Almost dropped a weight on my chest at the gym I was laughing so hard and so unexpectedly. Then 10 minutes later I dropped a tear. The range of emotions and content is powerful. This podcast is simultaneously hilariously and insightful, inspiring and challenging, light-hearted and heavy. If you’re looking for some laughs, some introspection, some deconstruction, some rebuilding, some humor or hope—this is that pod. 100% recommend whether you’re religious, anti-religion, spiritual, seeking, mad, tired, curious, or hopeful
