We discuss the footage, Lussier’s article, and what are thoughts are on the footage and behind-the-scenes production we get to see. Plus, Josh shares a little bit about the Google Doc attached to the footage which goes deep into the history of the production and how it did expand on canonical content.

#158 - The Rise of Skywalker Visual Dictionary

Some of our favorite books to read are the post-movie Visual Dictionaries. Pablo Hidalgo’s latest contribution does not disappoint and sheds a lot of light on a movie we are still coming to grips with. We discuss some of the important elements that help us parse out The Rise of Skywalker, as well as plucking out our favorite parts highlighting what we loved about the movie. We manage to keep it pretty brief considering the large amount in the book by sharing three items each and then some final thoughts. Enjoy!

    Feeling Kinda Blue

    Feeling Kinda Blue

Our news show is back, but we’re discussing some disappointing news in the Star Wars world. Don’t worry, it’s not that bad, but there are definitely some changes to some things we love and were anticipating in 2020. Blaine keeps us on task and Josh takes the blue-theme a little too far. We will be back with news every week for the foreseeable future, or at least until more TV shows come out. Enjoy!

#156 - The Rise of Skywalker Soundtrack w/ Chad Hopkins

One of the few traditions on our show is to have Chad Hopkins from The Cinescope Podcast on to talk new movie soundtracks with us. The final chapter of the Skywalker saga is no exception and Chad is back to discuss John Williams’ final foray into a galaxy far, far away! We discuss our favorite pieces of music, the thematic relationship between Kylo and Rey’s themes, as well as digging down into some of the more interesting pieces of music. Plus, we lock Chad in for another episode in the future and have some fun with who we think would make great composers in the Star Wars going forward. Enjoy this episode and Chad’s expertise.

Insight and positivity

I’m a very casual Star Wars fan and haven’t explored much outside of the main saga and Rogue One/Solo, but these guys make me want to explore more of the universe just so I can hear them talk about it. I appreciate Josh and Blaine’s energy and passion for the material as well knowledge; if I did a Star Wars podcast right now, it’d be a disaster because I just don’t have the knowledge that they do. Definitely worth your time!

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I am not a STAR WARS fan nor is this a podcast I would normally listen to, but Blaine and Josh are good dudes with hearts of iridium (?). Whenever I listen, I just tweet at them with shrugs, GIFS of complacency and complete confusion because all of it is sounds like Huttese (?) to me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But, hey, they put up with me, so 5 STARS.

“I never listen to Star Wars, but I listen to this show!” Josh, talking about me reviewing their podcast.

Smart, Thoughtful, and Wholesome

I’ve listened to many Star Wars podcasts over the years, but finally found my home. What sets this podcast apart from the pack?

1) Short introductions and more relevant topical discussion — many Star Wars podcasts are an hour or two (or longer) which include 30 minutes of introductory blurb or discussing the latest bit of speculation or news. This one is usually an hour or less and stays on topic.

2) New Content Reviews — I’m a huge fan of the novels which is what brought me here. These guys read books! Not only the new books, which usually have great discussion within a couple weeks of release but Legends titles as well. They’ve been fans for a long time and have a deep knowledge and appreciation of the old EU and new Canon. They also have great reviews of video games, comics, soundtracks, and other content. Again, this show is not just spinning its wheels on the latest bit of speculation or trailer, but discussing substantive released content. Great stuff!

3) They are fans, not fanboys or haters — Many podcasts seem to have their mission as being either relentlessly positive no matter what or constantly stewing in the toxic negativity that can appear in some online fandoms. Home One Radio is not clickbait or an outrage machine. They talk like real people used to talk before the internet hyperbolized reaction. In other words, they are open about what they like and dislike without needing to rant. It’s an intelligent conversation between intelligent people.

4) The STORY is the main point — there is plenty of cool stuff in Star Wars and I love that there are people who find their access point through a variety of ways. For me, the story is first and foremost and that’s the case here too. The discussion usually transcends the cool minutiae to really get at the larger story and what it means. This is refreshing!

Thank you Home One Radio for becoming my one and only home for Star Wars radio. Keep up the fantastic work!
