    129: Beth Ditto

    129: Beth Ditto

Beth Ditto in the house! This episode is a right laugh. Funny as hell, chatty as hell, and queer activist as hell, Beth Ditto chats to me and Alan about how Punk was the lifeline that took her from her hometown near Searcy, Arkansas where MTV was banned to becoming a rock star fronting the Gossip, a trailblazing solo artist, and muse to fashion gods she is today. We cover experiencing Straight Privilege, the body positivity movement, and find who managed to drink Judy Garland under the table? Press play and enjoy! Chris x

    128: Ryan O’Connell | Part 2

This week we are talking to the delightful star of Netflix sen-sation ‘Special' - Ryan O’Connell! Ryan’s story is fascinating, he turned his memoir about being a young queer person with Cerebral Palsy in to a hit TV show that is so funny, clever and really touching that I devoured it in one go when i first saw it. So as Season 2 launches, he came by Homo Sapiens Towers to tell me how making this new season taught him that even he makes mistakes around portraying disabled characters on screen, gives us some real talk about the Friends reunion, and we’re having it all out about open relationships. What’s not to love! Chris x

    127: LGBTQ+ in the Workplace

Has Chris been the only one wearing aftershave during lockdown!? Surely not. Anyway, other than updating you on that and his special new “celebrity” hat, in his final recording from Adelaide, Chris is asking you about your experiences as an LGBTQ+ person in the workplace! We discuss pronouns in email sign offs, safe spaces to work in and how to cope with homophobia at work (PS, you really SHOULDN’T have to, but it’s where we’re *still* at). PLUS another wonderful Culture Club constructed by you lovely people, with TV, music and food recommendations including a special lemon drizzle recipe from one of our listeners which you can find here!

    126: Paris Lees | Part 2

Our latest guest is a force of nature, a total hoot, and a huge part of Edward Enninful’s new look Vogue Magazine, it’s the AMAZING writer Paris Lees! She tells Chris and Alan all about the sweet delight of getting one over on transphobic newspapers, we have a giggle about what she’s been missing during lockdown, and we find out why she might just be upping sticks to France... Paris is someone we at Homo Sapiens have an abundance of love and admiration for, so press play to hear her trailblazing story! Her book, 'What It Feels Like for a Girl', is out 27 May 2021! - Chris and Alan x

LOVE

This show is such a ray of light! I discovered it during the panorama, like so many others, and have been blowing through the episodes. Not only are the interviews insightful and funny, there is just something about Chris’s voice that is SO calming.

Lots of love! Can’t wait to hear the next episode.

Listen, Learn and laugh

I am so grateful that I found this podcast. It is full of interesting queer guests and their allies. I have learned so much from listening. Chris and Alan have great chemistry; their banter is hilarious. They are expert interviewers asking fun, insightful and at times challenging questions of their guests. I always come away more knowledgeable about queer culture, but most importantly I laugh a lot! Cheers to you both, and hoping for many, many more episodes. Thank you for the good time!

Stephen Fry

Deep diving into the HS archives. I cannot believe Alan’s first episode co-hosting was with Stephen Fry as a guest! Wow. Well done all!
