What is hop·nólogy?
For the purposes of this podcast, it's James and Gregg tossing around their observations after 10+ years in the hops industry. Over that time we've developed some conclusions - and a whole lot of opinions - about what works and what doesn't in the beer community triangle of consumers, growers and brewers. Join us and our periodic guest contributors as we run the gamut of topics from "mom said I could plant a half acre out back" and "Mr. Brewer sir, what do you mean you won't buy this garbage bag of hops that I just picked from my backyard" to the guy who wanted to dry his hops in an old casket. Yep, that really happened.

#181: Thiols
We’re on a Sciency Science roll and this week it’s about thiols. More of the magic that exists in your hops if you only know where to look.
-
#180: Homeostasis (that means balance)
There are so many variables in your yard, and they all work in tandem with each other. That’s why the answer is so often “it depends”. What does it depend *on* though?
Two new episodes in a row? Hmm. That’s curious….. -
#179: Another Dive Into New Brewer
The latest issue gave us a treasure trove of topics, including gluten free brewing, non-beer products from breweries, and Gregg’s favorite topic of “pumpkin” beer.
-
Hopnology Classic: Drying Study
For many many many years we’ve talked about low temperature drying in order to retain the hop characteristics that we’re growing these things for in the first place. We did what we do, which is to Science It for an answer. Guess what happened?

Hopnology Classic: Brewer Questions
Such a fun episode, reflecting on all of our observations of watching hop growers try to sell to breweries.
-
Hopnology Classic: Pivoting
It was the episode that launched a thousand future rants. When to know when to change.
Customer Reviews
Thorough, informative and entertaining
These guys dish out relevant knowledge weekly that is one of the only easily digestible avenues for hop farming and the business behind it. It is a wonderful resource to be able to draw on their extensive knowledge and experience well. We built our drying system solely based on what was discussed on the drying show. Thanks for all the work you guys do! Cheers.
Good information, insufferable to listen to
If you’re looking into growing hops and want some useful information, you can find it here, but you need to tolerate the insufferable complaining about every single thing the beer community has to offer from 2 pompous curmudgeons to be able to find that useful information.
