Horror Movie Survival Guide is a weekly podcast where two unlikely gorehounds and long time chums, one a hardcore horror fan with a notebook to prove it, and the other finally coming out of the creepy horror fandom closet - watch and talk about horror film from a survival point of view. We ask the question - how can *we* end up as the final girl? Join Julia Marchese and Teri Gamble as we take a deep dive into everything from OG horror to newly released films (but preferably classics on VHS). We'll talk about obscure details that no one else notices, spin off into alternate casting universes, crush on some foxy, dodgy fellows (and creepy uncles), and arm ourselves with the knowledge necessary to become The Final Girl.

We here at HMSG are so lucky and honored to interview Writer, Educator, and Producer TANANARIVE DUE! Due is an award-winning author who teaches Black Horror and Afrofuturism at UCLA. She was one of the executive producers for one of our favorite documentaries HORROR NOIRE: A history of Black Horror for Shudder.
If you haven't watch Horror Noire yet - please do! And if you have and are ready to learn more about the History of Black Horror be sure to check out Due's class that she and her husband & collaborator Steven Barns have made available online at SunkenPlaceClass.com. Wonderful guests like Jordan Peele pop in to share their insights on the genre.
It was a delight to hear her insights on horror and it's social impact as we took a deep dive discussion into the new CANDYMAN (2021), directed by Nia DiCosta. We discuss the relevance of the work and how we can interact with the original with a new framework and context.

Sinister - "I'll make you famous again."
Special request from one of our dear friends Becky D' Anna! We couldn't believe that Julia & Teri had both not seen this one since it stars one of their favorite actors! ETHAN HAWKE!
A writer on a mission to become famous beyond his past successes enters into a world that he is not ready to believe. A SINISTER world indeed - of murders, curses and denial...

Stage Fright - "Don't Panic, Stick Together"
Our final ARROW film is 1987's STAGE FRIGHT (Deliria)! Rehearsal turns deadly for a troupe of actors as the lines blur between reality and the fiction! We love a film that takes us behind the scenes of the creative process and this one does not disappoint! A dancing owl, a saxophone playing Marilyn Monroe, and some of the most creative kills  we've seen recently!

The ARROW party continues with some 1960's J-Horror BLIND BEAST (1969) - this one left our jaws on the floor. Who knew a story of a blind sculptor and his muse would turn into a  titillating tale that ultimately descends into the world of BDSM.
