    EP205: Tom Chapman – A Mighty Lion!

    EP205: Tom Chapman – A Mighty Lion!

I'm delighted to bring back onto the podcast founder of 'The Lions Barber Collective', Tom Chapman. Tom is truly a Mighty Lion and I always love talking to him.  Last on the show back in Episode 76 I wanted to catch up with Tom and learn more on all of his epic work he continues to do when it comes to raising prevention of suicide in men.

A big statement I know, but Tom continues to inspire me more than anyone else in the industry and that's all because of everything he does within it. In this conversation today he will bring us all up to speed on this, including becoming the author of his latest book 'The Mighty Lions' and the launch of both The Lions Barbers in London's Carnaby Street, and the Collective Pride Awards.

Theres so much brilliant stuff to cover in this conversation. Listen in to hear why by hitting that play button.

EP204: Being Part of the Fellowship ClubStar Art Team (a Chat with the ClubStar Art Team 2020/21)

EP204: Being Part of the Fellowship ClubStar Art Team (a Chat with the ClubStar Art Team 2020/21)

Today's podcast I'm to be joined by not just one guest, but six. Why? I'm having a lovely group chat with some of the current Fellowship for British Hairdressing 'ClubStar Art Team' 20/21 members, Darcey Clarke, Jack Anthony, Lizzie Williams, Sam Arnold, Josie Simmons and their team leader, Karoliina Saunders.

In this episode I'm Keen to learn why and how being part of the ClubStar Art Team provides such an exciting opportunity for all of it's ClubStar members. This includes working on Fellowship stage presentations and attending incredible mentoring days. I personally believe this is something that all passionate young hair professionals should aspire, too. By listening into this conversation it will give you the understanding to what can exist in creative world of hairdressing away from the confines of the salon floor.

ClubStar Art Team was introduced in 2014 and I'm all for this and everything else the Fellowship for British Hairdressing can offer. Mentoring and focussing on promoting artistic and creative quality are much of what this independent and non-political organisation stands for. Providing support for future hairdressing talent keen to make their own mark in the industry. ClubStar membership (which is exclusively for hair professionals aged 16 to 25), the ClubStar Art Team, PROJECT: X, PROJECT: Colour and PROJECT: Men courses and our F.A.M.E. Team are all designed to nurture skills and provide a career pathway.

So if you're hungry to grow your hairdressing and barbering careers, I can't recommend enough on becoming a member (something that I have recently become). This podcast will give you all the information, inspirations and information you need to know on why and how you can get involved with ClubStar Art Team and the Fellowship for British Hairdressing. I know you'll love this chat with some of the future stars of British hairdressing.

EP203: Creating a Brand Identity with Ollie Johns of Zero-Sugar

What is branding and why does it matter to your business? Your branding is your salon’s first impression to your audience and potential clients. Your salon’s personality should shine through every part of your branding making it clear to your audience who you are and what you stand for.

This is just some of the neat stuff we will be diving into today, as I'm joined by branding expert for the health and wellness sector, Ollie Johns of Zero-Sugar Branding.

Responsible for the branding behind some of the biggest names in the hair industry, I first got connected with Ollie after a previous episode with, Ben Lifton, who gave a shoutout to Ollie as the go-to branding guru. Always a subject I love to cover, I just had to bring Ollie onto todays show so we can learn all things when it comes to creating your branding identity.

If it's time for your business to get branded (or rebranded), then this podcast is the prefect listen for you.

This weeks Xtra Show we have some big gold nuggets from Ollie on branding your business. Listen in HERE

EP202: The Barber Imposters with Paul Simmons

EP202: The Barber Imposters with Paul Simmons

A couple of months back I saw a Facebook post by a respected UK barber and a How To Cut It Patreon member, Paul Simmons. His post referred to our interview with Rino Ricco in Episode 192 and how some of the points we discussed in that talked of a misunderstanding to the barbering industry. So I had to invite Paul onto the podcast to get his viewpoints across. An advocate for everything British barbering is, Paul will passionately reveal why he get's incensed by how many hairdressers do not understand the barbering industry.

This podcast I'm confident will spark up heated conversations. We we also get to learn why Paul feels the industry is being infiltrated by imposters and fraudsters. He says, "It's time for these imposters to pack up and go back to the careers they walked out of. 2021 will be the biggest year yet for the barbering industry, but also the one with the most turmoil. Barbershops will need to be more professional, get registered with some sort of governing body and start to pay tax, decent wages and charge for their services accordingly."

Starting his career as a barber in 1976 in a small barbershop in Wolverhampton, Paul has gone on to become owner of Simmons Barbershops and works as an ambassador for a leading scissor brand, along with working on shows around the world in his the former role as Artistic Director for Wahl GmbH (Germany). Having such a barber expert on the show, I had to also take up this opportunity to hear Paul's take on the future direction of the barbering industry.

We're going to get all of this today, so take a coffee (or tea, or water) break and let's chat. And if you want more on this conversation with Paul, tune into this weeks Xtra Show HERE.

Great Host-Interviewer

Questions are excellent, smooth voice, smooth directing of topics discussed, allows the conversation to flow if the guest is enthralling, like w/ Bruce Masefield interview, ie, doesn't distract from the point or content the guest is discussing. Very easy to listen to and absorb the guests' expertise.
