With Lydia Fenet, Author of "The Most Powerful Woman In The Room is You"
Have you ever wondered why some people succeed in business and others with the same exact credentials or experience fail? Could it be that the secret to success is ultimately within our own power? Do you know how to properly sell yourself? Do you know how to be your best advocate? Do you know how to take care of YOU and help others see how worthwhile you are? If not, perhaps my guest today can show you how to do that. In September of 2019, I interviewed Lydia Fenet. Lydia is the Global Managing Director of Strategic Partnerships and Lead Benefit Auctioneer at Christie’s Auction House. She is also a keynote speaker and author of the book “The Most Powerful Woman in the Room is You”. According to Lydia, one of the secrets to success is how we present ourselves to others. Whether you’re applying for a job, making a presentation to a client, asking someone on a date, or just getting your kids to eat their peas, Lydia advises us to create an image in our mind of how we want other people to think of us. Now that you have that picture in your mind, ask yourself, “Is that how I’m appearing to others?” If not, what can you do differently? Lydia shares the secrets of her success in her book, and gives us a sneak peek into some in today’s episode.
What You’ll Hear on This Episode:
Where and how did Lydia grow up? What did Lydia study in college? How did Lydia get started being an auctioneer? When did Lydia meet her husband and what is their relationship like? How does Lydia balance being a mother to 3 small children and working full time? What is Lydia’s day-to-day life like at Christie’s? What made Lydia decide to write her book? So, how do you sell?
In addition to her successful career where she’s raised more than a half a billion dollars for charity and traveled all around the world speaking on the art of selling, Lydia is also a happily married mother of 3 children. The strategies she used throughout her career apply just as well to her personal life. Remember, it’s important to be your own self-advocate. Invest the time in yourself, believe in yourself, and be confident enough to speak up. Learn how to negotiate what’s important for your needs. If you don’t, who will? I often speak to myself in the mirror to tell myself my own worth, and you can too! When we feel good about ourselves it shows, and others respond favorably to the positive energy that we give off. Go ahead and give off some real positive energy, keep smiling, stay healthy, be energetic and enthusiastic, and like yourself. Look in that mirror and tell yourself that you’re worth it and that you can help others by helping yourself. Sell yourself. I’m Florine Mark and that’s “Today’s Takeaway.”
