What if you didn’t need a pastor to start your spiritual journey? What if spiritual directors like pastors, mentors, peers, culture, friends and family were additions to the most important part of your journey? You.

This podcast exists for that purpose. To walk with you. Not to tell you what to believe. Not to change your mind. Not to “convert” you (whatever that even means).

Your spiritual journey is yours. So here, you have found a safe place. A place to ask questions, interrogate reality, de-construct, re-construct and be in community with others who are courageous enough to explore their spirituality without sacrificing their intellectual integrity.

Honest and raw. It will make you go Hmmm 🤔

This podcast tackles some tough topics that few people want to touch today. Love how Doug shares his thoughts and questions about religion. Very thought provoking. It will make you critically think and dive deeper into why you believe what you believe. A must on your list of podcasts!

Excellent!

I’m thoroughly enjoying listening to this podcast. I love Doug’s fresh perspective on the Bible and the way he approaches it with intellect and an open mind and heart. He presents each episode as a conversation and not an agenda to push beliefs. After listening, I have found myself leaning into a deeper relationship with God knowing I can be fully myself and I will be met with grace.
Listeners, be sure to check out the sin of sodom episode! I have been waiting for someone to discuss this story using its full context and understanding of the time period. Honestly, every episode has been excellent so far...listen to them all!

Empathy That Restores Faith

From within certain religious circles, messages from narrow-minded and misinformed interpretations to common scripture can unintentionally compound our own feelings of unworthiness. I have personally struggled with this and the frustration that I would
feel was very real when the faith that I thought should relieve my destructive thoughts would only make them more intense.
Doug, through his knowledge of common scripture and honesty in sharing his own experiences, validates and normalizes what I would often feel ashamed of. He delivers his message in a refreshing and authentic way that I haven't seen in a lot of faith-based podcasts. Listening to I Am Not Your Pastor gives me the reminder, daily, that I am a human and okay just the way I am. It boosts my confidence as it assists in supporting a healthier perspective that tells me "I am enough and loved just the way I am."
