What Is The Trail Blazers Best Lineup?

The offseason is still humming along in the NBA, but after a week of free agency movement and roster changes it's time to ask: What is the Trail Blazers best lineup heading into the 2022-23 season.
This episode takes a look at the presumed starting lineup of Damian Lillard, Anfernee Simons, Nassir Little, Jerami Grant and Jusuf Nurkic. Along with the likely bench contributors in Josh Hart, Gary Payton II, Justise Winslow and Trendon Watford. What about Shaedon Sharpe or Greg Brown III? Where would Drew Eubanks fit? We get into all the rotation questions that Portland still has to answer before opening night.
Then we talk advance stats and how the Blazers can build their optimal lineup, why bringing Simons off the bench isn't actually a solution and how to best maximize a Lillard-Simons pairing. Let's talk lineups!

How the Rudy Gobert trade and a Kevin Durant move impacts the Portland Trail Blazers

How the Rudy Gobert trade and a Kevin Durant move impacts the Portland Trail Blazers

The Utah Jazz agreed to trade Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday in the what might be the first of several seismic trades that shake up the Western Conference playoff picture.
With potential moves coming for Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons in Brooklyn couple with the possibility of Deandre Ayton, Donovan Mitchell and Russell Westbrook changing teams, there's a lot up in the air across the league. Like, a lot. All of these trades and moves could have major implications for the Trail Blazers. Who are still waiting to complete the Jerami Grant trade and could wait until the dust settles to finish that trade or get involved in a larger deal if some other All-Stars in hopes of further upgrading the roster.
Regardless of how it all plays out, the Blazers need to get bigger. They're small and interesting and fun as it stands, but if they are serious about being competitive, they need to add size to the roster.

Trail Blazers Free Agency Day 1: Anfernee Simons gets paid, Jusuf Nurkic left waiting

Trail Blazers Free Agency Day 1: Anfernee Simons gets paid, Jusuf Nurkic left waiting

The Trail Blazers opened the first day of free agency with a couple mild surprises. Anfernee Simons got a four-year $100 million contract and Jusuf Nurkic got nothing, left waiting for a contract agreement after the first official day of negotiations.
What doe Simons' big day mean? How did it swell to $100 million and how do we judge Simons now that's he's graduated from alluring star of the future to well compensated cornerstone?
On the Nurkic front, what's the deal? Or rather where's the deal? Why haven't the two sides agreed on a contract that seemed to be a forgone conclusion for months and what are the other options for both Nurkic and the Blazers if they can't agree on a new contract. Plus, is there a Kevin Durant trade demand angle to all of this that could be holding up some decision making from the Blazers and Nurkic.
Finally, the Blazers are reportedly targeting Gary Payton II and Bruce Brown. What does that type of free agent target tell us about how Portland wants to play and what the front office values in a player this offseason.

What does Jalen Brunson's pay day mean for Anfernee Simons and the Trail Blazers

What does Jalen Brunson's pay day mean for Anfernee Simons and the Trail Blazers

Jalen Brunson is reportedly going to get $110 million when free agency starts. What does a big pay day from the Knicks mean for the Trail Blazers and Anfernee Simons. Well it means a pay day is coming soon for Ant, but he's probably not getting Brunson money.
Plus, Ivica Zubac signed a contract extension that could help set the salary floor for Jusuf Nurkic. And the Blazers are likely to be facilitators when trade season gets going in the next few weeks.

Continued Excellence

Mike tells it like it is, even when it’s painful. It is always my very first podcast to listen to daily even though I now subscribe to 2 other Blazer-oriented podcasts as well as some newsy podcasts. Keep up the great work!!

My preferred Blazers podcast

While not the most polished and produced, I think host Mike Richman has a very likable persona and has so far never annoyed me, something not many blazers podcast hosts can claim. He dives deep on everything from the foundational to the periphery, as daily podcasters are wont to do, but he weights his topics appropriately. He openly admits that he isn’t a “fan” which allows his analysis and opinions to come across clearly without any real emotional urgency, which just seems correct for sports.
