Dan Hanzus and Bob Castrone love listening to music- almost as much as they love hanging out in a garage and talking about it. On The Throwback Podcast, lifelong friends revisit important albums from their past and go through them--track by track-- with fresh ears. From the classics to the cringeworthy, every week is a throwback.
GUNS N’ ROSES - Appetite For Destruction
When a classic 80's album that's sold 30+ MILLION copies turns 35 AND wins a Patreon Poll, it's time for Dan and Bob to cover it. The boys return to the garage to crank up the EPIC masterpiece by a group of Sunset Strip lunatics. It's Appetite For Destruction time on the Throwback Pod.
SONGS OF SUMMER: The Ultimate Mixtape
Fire up the grill and break out the slip & slide - it's summertime! To soundtrack your summer fun, Dan and Bob compiled a playlist of the ultimate summer songs* [*for people born in exactly 1980]. So crack open a piña colada flavored Bartles & James wine cooler and enjoy!
EVERCLEAR -Sparkle & Fade
Five years into this ungodly podcast experiment known as The Throwback Pod, Bob and Dan are finally ready to swim out past the breakers and watch the world die. Before they go, they're going to revisit one of Bob's absolute favorite albums of the 1990's, Everclear's major label debut Sparkle & Fade. Sounds like heaven to me.
JUNE 2000 - Modern Rock Countdown
Papa Roach. Eminem. A Perfect Circle. STP... it can ONLY be The Year 2000. The Bosom Buddies have reunited in the nü garage just so they can travel back in time twenty-two years to see what all the cool kids were listening to during modern rock's dark ages. This is our last resort.
ARCADE FIRE - The Suburbs
They may not be in the garage and they're certainly not on TikTok, but Dan and Bob ARE BACK with an all new episode. This week, our suburban-raised heroes are rockin' The Suburbs, Arcade Fire's Grammy Award Winning masterpiece. If you have any issues with that, please address them to The Throwback Podcast's Office of Corrections / Department Of Go Fuck Yourself.
FOO FIGHTERS - A Retrospective [Taylor’s Version]
On March 25, 2022 the world was shocked to learn Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins had passed away at the age of 50. For over 20 years he was Dave Grohl's right hand man, playing drums for alt-rock's most famous drummer, and amassing millions of fans around the world. Looking back at the Foo's past two decades of mega hits and successes, Bob and Dan share their favorite songs from The Taylor Era, dig into the band that was selling out arenas and winning Grammys while they were still looking for 'the next big thing', and speculate about what comes next for this century's biggest rock and roll band.
This has to be on the Rushmore of podcasts about music for people born exactly in 1980, who have 69 top 5 songs of all time. I had a great time listening to 2 friends reminisce about how music transports you to other times in life. I didn’t quite have the same taste but will say that Bob and Dan introduced me to many albums that I completely missed in my life. Thanks for the hours and hours of wasted time.
Oh and I also found a pretty decent football podcast through this great music pod.
My favorite pod
I’m way out of the 1980 sweet spot (I’m born 95) but this pod is great and has turned me on to a ton of music. Bob and Dan are hilarious (keep the Live bit going. Puppy scruff!) and have great taste— even if they miss the boat when it comes to Prince.
im very far from the target audience but for some reason this is my fav podcast
