Using Data to Work Smarter, Not Harder: Lessons from Collective[i] CEO Tad Martin

Using Data to Work Smarter, Not Harder: Lessons from Collective[i] CEO Tad Martin

When Tad Martin first joined Overstock.com in 2000, he entered a company with a lot of valuable data waiting to be used, but lacking the technology to use it. As COO, Tad led a lengthy and pricey big data overhaul to get the company up to speed.

After he left Overstock, Tad wanted to empower other organizations to harness the power of big data in an easier way. He started Collective[i] for a profession that he thought was underserved in big data solutions: sales professionals. Using predictive analytics based on their network of sales professionals, Collective[i] makes recommendations to its users on things like which buyers to target and when.

    In this episode, we explore:

-How sales professionals can make more money while doing less work using predictive analytics.
-What it means to create network effects with data.
-The strides big data technology has taken over the past two decades.
-And the things sales professionals get wrong when they don't rely on the data.

Can Data Build the Perfect Pizza Shop? Featuring Olo CEO Noah Glass

One day in 2003, Noah Glass was fed up with waiting in line for coffee. There must be a better way, he thought.

Today, he is the Founder and CEO of Olo, which provides order-ahead technology for 200 restaurant brands, including sweetgreen, Chipotle and Shake Shack, across 40,000 locations. Olo has raised over $63 million and says that when brands add digital ordering to their restaurants, they see on average a 25 percent increase in ticket size. In this episode, we explore:

-How delivery is changing the game for restaurants — and why grocery stores want in on the action.
-How data can construct the perfect menu.
-What weird ordering habits Olo keeps track of.
-Why Amazon would want to acquire Whole Foods.
    -And so much more!

This episode was produced and edited by Lauren Feiner. Our music is "Is That You Or Are You You" by Chris Zabriskie.

Your AI-Powered Assistant Has You Covered: A Futuristic Conversation with x.ai CEO Dennis Mortensen

Your AI-Powered Assistant Has You Covered: A Futuristic Conversation with x.ai CEO Dennis Mortensen

X.ai has raised $44 million to tackle a really big small problem: scheduling emails. You might have encountered one of their AI-powered assistants without even knowing it. When emailing to set up a meeting, a user simply copies amy@x.ai or andrew@x.ai to take over the logistics. These bots process natural language in order to set up a meeting the way a human assistant would — but for much less money. On this episode, Dennis Mortensen, the CEO and Co-Founder of x.ai, talks about what a future powered by artificially intelligent assistants could look like.

Interesting

I was surprised when listening to Kathryn from the Muse go over what people are looking for in today's job environment. She brought up a lot of good points, as I contemplate my own future, of what to look for.

Great Show

I was genuinely floored how much I enjoy this podcast. There are certain topics that you assume will never be interesting but Deciding by Data actually is a compelling podcast focusing on a customer perspective of things. As someone who works in Customer Experience this has become a show that not only do I plan to continue to listen to, I am going to start suggesting my other team members subscribe to it.
