Being the community of Christ in the midst of COVID-19 (Mar 3, 2020) - Chess Cavitt
As we practice social distancing to protect one another, I have recorded a video in lieu of a sermon. I will be sending these out on Sundays during our cancelation of services as a form of spiritual food. It is important for us to tend to our spiritual health as well as our physical health. It is my hope that the video brings you some comfort, encouragement, and direction in the days to come.
Lifted Up (John 3:1-17) Mar 8, 2020--Chess Cavitt
As we walk with Jesus toward the cross, preparing ourselves for Easter, we look with Nicodemus to the exaltation of Jesus. However, exaltation for Christ is a lifting up for death on a cross. This abnormal exaltation lifts Jesus up as an example and serves to save us and bring us eternal life. But when we look upon the exalted Christ on the cross do we believe, or, like Nicodemus, do we lack understanding and belief?
Jesus Himself Alone (Matt 17:1-9) Feb 23, 2020 - Chess Cavitt
When Jesus took Peter, James, and John up on the mount of transfiguration, much more than Jesus’ appearance changed. In a moment of fear, the disciples looked up to find “Jesus himself alone” calling them out of their fear and into peace and comfort. Many of us are or have been overcome by fears of various kinds, and if we can find the courage to look up and for Jesus in our moments of fear we can find freedom from fear, even peace.
