I’m begging you...

Please stop treating guests like they are separated from you by an entire generation when you are less than 8 or 9 years older than them. And while I’m at it, you are young when you’re still in your 30s. When you try to “make” yourself so old and experienced, it’s actually condescending. Love, a 62 year old woman who is not old.

Love the show, but stop being so nonchalant about something you know nothing about

I love almost everything about this show…but listening to you talk about childbirth- get the drugs, have the c-section is about to make me stop listening. You haven’t gone through it, just stop. I’ve had a c-section, I’ve had two natural VBAC’s. Talk about ancestral trauma- how long will that affect my now 16 year old??- having my child ripped from me (basically forced against my will) and then kept from me for 3 hours while I cried in recovery and then literally couldn’t do anything for myself OR my baby for days and pain for weeks, leading to PPD and I believe PTSD that was helped tremendously by my VERY calm, amazing VBAC (zero drugs by the way). I held my baby immediately, was able to do things on my own almost immediately (didn’t have to wake my husband up in the middle of the night to help me go to the bathroom only to watch me pee myself because I couldn’t get there in time). I would choose vaginal, natural birth again over and over if I were to do it again. I get that’s not everyone’s experience, but please understand that those of us that choose it are not martyrs, for us it’s the better, safer option. BTW, when asking why they don’t just schedule c-sections, the reason is in MOST cases it’s the riskier option for mom. Also, if mom plans to have more kids, it’s riskier for each additional kid, especially the more she has, but they don’t tell you that when they tell you you’re going to have one, they just tell you you have no choice and if you love your baby you’ll comply. Obviously not the case for everyone, but a story I’ve heard ALL too frequently as I used to run a support group for women you had had a cesarean. Just please try to realize that many women have been hurt by the medical team they trusted, flat out lied to. It’s not about “being feminine and needing to feel childbirth”, it’s about autonomy, and being trusted to make decisions for myself and my baby- given straight facts I might have chosen cesarean for myself the first time, but I was lied to and told I had no choice. Just please stop being so nonchalant about it, you have no idea what you’re talking about here.
