Living Colour's "Vivid" (1988): Track by Track

Living Colour's "Vivid" (1988): Track by Track

In 1988, Living Colour released an album that would simmer for nearly a full year before kicking down the door of the standard rock scene with one of the biggest pounding rock anthems of the decade. "Cult of Personality" became their biggest hit and changed the idea of what a rock band should look and sound like. Vernon Reid's blistering guitars and Corey Glover's soulful voice, along with some help from Mick Jagger and Michael Jackson, helped push this album over the top. Come and join us as we go track by track through "Vivid" with Patreon member James Buckley!

Poison's "Open Up and Say...Ahh!" (1988): Track by Track

When Poison broke big in 1986 they brought with them loads of glitz, glam, style, confidence and FUN. Unlike many of their peers though, they also had great songs. In May of 1988 they released their second album that included what might be the greatest party rock anthem of the 80s and what might be the greatest power ballad of the 1980s. So grab your nearest Fallen Angel, fire up the pyrotechnics and confetti and join us and go track by track through "Open Up and Say...Ahh!" with our good friend, Dale Selby!

Great Show

Vivid was a very good album. It sounded different than other albums released around that time. I enjoyed this podcast very much.

A Misspent Youth Influencing More Misspent Youth

I teach social studies at a military school in Virginia. I feel it is imperative that I keep up with current events so as to best explain topics that may come up in my classes. But I discovered the Surely guys just before Thanksgiving of 2022. Prior to this, I would listen to my local morning drive time show to stay up on local current events and listen to public radio to get more in-depth coverage on national and global issues. Boy was I a moron! Since Turkey Day, I have not turned on my radio to or from my 30 minute commute each way because of these guys. I have been loving every day’s drive to and from work, reliving the glory of yesteryear, and getting a new perspective on things I was too dense to understand as a teenager in the late 80s and early 90s. Who cares about global warming, geopolitical issues, and Pledge Week when you’ve got so many episodes of the Surely You Can’t Be Serious podcast!?!? I am learning so much about the movies and music that made me and using that knowledge to influence another generation of misspent youth. I am seriously thinking of developing a few lesson plans on entertainment trends of the 80s and 90s in my classroom and I can thank Jason and Dee for that. Do yourself a favor and drop in to the best 80s and 90s pop culture podcast on the inter-webs. You will thank me later. And more importantly you should thank the Surely guys. -Lord Morgan

Great podcast!

Great rapport between the hosts. Great knowledge base… you can tell they care about the content and accuracy, but, most of all, you can tell they are passionate about this side job and love what they do.
And, I’m a Cold War kid so the things they discuss are right in my formative wheelhouse!

Keep it up guys!
