Episode 20: Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

Drink up me 'earties, yo ho! On this second episode during Movie Attractions May, we hope aboard the MASSIVELY successful first installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, The Curse of the Black Pearl. Before we can get into the epic-scale that was Gore Verbinski's pirate adventure, we look into the history of the Disneyland attraction which inspired the film, its evolution from Walt's original vision of the attraction to the still wildly successful ride we know today. We then journey through the process of bringing this attraction to the big screen, and how it exceeded even the most generous of expectations.

SO much fun

Cracking the Vault is like getting to sit with my pals and nerd out on all things Disney. They cover it all - historical tidbits, production notes, how the films came to be, even the price of gas at the time the films were released. Top that off with fantastic, hilarious commentary and you have a great podcast. I’m partial to the long episodes and look forward to more!

One of my favs

Cracking the vault quickly became one of my favorite podcasts. As a big fan of Disney films I find the playful banter between Jamie and Ryan to be a wonderful medium through which to revisit Disney movies during my commute. Ryan’s research driven attention to details and fun facts complements Jamie’s playful “criticism” of plot holes (usually explained away as “Disney Magic”) as they share a detail filled recap of each film. If you enjoy discussing movies with your friends and delving into movie trivia and factoids on Wikipedia and IMDB, this podcast is perfect for you.

Fresh out of the Vault

Ryan and Jamie are such a joy to listen to. They remind me of myself and my husband when we can get into little (fun) disagreements about Disney content! I really enjoy learning about different movies and park facts through them and their perspectives and research. I love that episodes are so long because I can listen to them on my long commute from work! I also love the variety of movies they discuss, from live action to Pixar and more, I am throughout enjoying this podcast and can’t wait for more!
