Meg Gardiner, Edgar-winning author of HEAT 2

Meg Gardiner, Edgar-winning author of HEAT 2

What can I say about a gal who is one of the best thriller writers in the world today? I'll tell you: She's done it again. Topped herself, that is.
On today's 84th Episode of The Thriller Zone, Meg Gardiner has teamed up with the legendary filmmaker Michael Mann to craft an epic saga that is part prequel, part sequel, and incorporates references to the original Heat, making it one helluva second effort, while standing strong as a stand-alone.
You no doubt know Mann's work in Blackhat, Miami Vice, Collateral, Ali, The Insider, HEAT, The Last of the Mohicans, and Thief, to name a few.
Meg and I met a few years ago when she was signing books at Warwick's bookstore in La Jolla. She appeared with Don Winslow. I saw her again at Thrillerfest 2019, and along the way, she's appeared on both of my podcasts, The Thriller Zone, and the former Naked Monday.
Each time she sits down behind the microphone with me, I sit in wonder at the depth of her amazing talent. And I should mention that I first discovered he work by reading her Caitlin Hendricks UNSUB series, but soon went back and read much of her earlier work.
Suffice it to say that if you love page-turning thrillers that educate and enlighten, while scaring the crap out of you, you MUST read Meg Gardiner.
On today's show we discuss a good many things: her home fire, her UNSUB Series, writing conferences and more. She shares terrific insights through her writing advice, and we share more than several good laughs.
I hope you enjoy the show today; it's soon to be a favorite. Furthermore, I trust you'll read HEAT 2, a truly electrifying novel that'll keep you glued to your seat...or in my case, to my hammock (a favorite reading spot).

Eli Cranor, author of Don't Know Tough

Eli Cranor, author of Don't Know Tough

On today's 83rd Episode of The Thriller Zone, special debut author Eli Cranor stops by to chew the fat about his debut runaway hit, "Don't Know Tough."
From one Southern boy to another, this dude gets it right, on so many levels. The feeling of the deep south, the characters who play in that world, and a heart-wrenching story about the not-so-small world of high school football in a small southern town.
As author Ace Atkins says, "Eli knows the underbelly of Friday night lights in this stunning debut that bleeds authenticity and raw emotion."
Eli has walked the walk, by both playing and coaching football, and even today, teaches high-schoolers what it means to live and learn and win in life.
I think you'll appreciate the laidback demeanor of my guest, and the insights he brings as a debut author to the world of publishing. You'll also get an "inside peek" into his "special writing space," how he entertains his kids (and pets), and just how much he loves the craft of storytelling.
To learn more, visit: https://EliCranor.com (EliCranor.com) and follow him on Twitter @elicranor.

On today's 82nd Episode of The Thriller Zone, I'm very happy to welcome the lovely, charming, and mega-talented New York Times Bestselling Author and Reese Witherspoon Book Club Winner, Sarah Pearse.
Sarah not only has a unique way to "spin a yarn," but she has an engaging way to twist a story that leads you in one direction, only to redirect you another way.

When you meet her, you instantly adore her upbeat personality, while wondering how someone so nice could create such evil.

Join us as we chat about writing technique, what makes a propulsive thriller, how we both adore stories that grab us by the neck and drag us along for the ride.

Sarah also has terrific answers to my #RapidFireQuestions, which you've learned by now, aren't all that rapid, but are always a lot of fun, as they force the guest to think fast on their feet. I think this is part of the show that Sarah really enjoyed.

Best new-ish podcast ever

It’s been years since I was an obsessive reader of mystery/thriller novels, but The Thriller Zone has revived my addiction. I’m ordering too many books, but I can’t help it. The authors interviewed are too interesting, the conversations led by host David Temple too engaging. I blame him.
