Welcome to 'Don't You Want Me?' - a podcast series taking a lighthearted look at the most relatable, intriguing and dysfunctional relationships in film.
Today we’re anchoring the news with 1987’s James L. Brooks romantic comedy drama Broadcast News. Holly Hunter must negotiate a dubious situationship with William Hurt alongside an agenda-heavy friendship with Albert Brooks, all in a highly stressful work environment steeped in perspiration and shoulder pads. Joining us today to dig into this love triangle is somewhat of an expert in journalism and broadcasting, it’s writer, editor and podcaster John Brewin.

    WHAM! (2023)

Welcome to 'Don't You Want Me?' - a podcast series taking a lighthearted look at the most relatable, intriguing and dysfunctional relationships in film.
In this episode, we’re breaking your mama’s heart with 2023’s documentary film WHAM! directed by Chris Smith. This movie marks the 40th anniversary of the release of Wham’s debut album Fantastic and centres around the relationship between Andrew Ridgeley and George Michael: how they came to be pals, how they flourished together as a creative partnership and how - in the space of just a few years - they became the ultimate pop embracing, sportswear-clad, sunshine-fuelled global phenomenon. Club Tropicana drinks are free, but can you put a price on true friendship?

    Barbie (2023)

    Barbie (2023)

Welcome to 'Don't You Want Me?' - a podcast series taking a lighthearted look at the most relatable, intriguing and dysfunctional relationships in film.
Tonight we’ll be going down the plastic slide with Greta Gerwig’s 2023 smash hit comedy caper Barbie. Written with Noah Baumbach, creator of 2019’s Marriage Story, this film sees director Greta Gerwig follow up the success of 2017’s Lady Bird and 2019’s Little Women. Both she and Baumbach had previously collaborated on films such as Greenberg, Frances Ha and Mistress America, but none of these projects touched the hem of the financial success of Barbie. What is it about the pairing of Barbie and Ken that has captured the public’s imagination? What does the film tell us about relationships, real world ones or otherwise? Did you lose interest in the patriarchy once you found out it wasn’t about horses? If you enjoy this episode, please leave us a rating or a review in your podcast app of choice - help us make this the best day ever!

    Gregory’s Girl (1980)

Welcome to 'Don't You Want Me?' - a podcast series taking a lighthearted look at the most relatable, intriguing and dysfunctional relationships in film.
Tonight we’ll be having a kickabout with the 1980 coming-of-age romantic comedy Gregory’s Girl. Directed and written by Bill Forsyth, this is a film with a small budget and a huge legacy. How does it tackle the course of true love? What does it say about the goals of adolescent romance? Which ideas still bounce, more than forty years on from its release? To help us answer these vinegar-soaked questions is master of pop Iain McDermott, host of one of our favourite podcasts Back to Now! If you enjoy this episode, please leave a rating and a review as it really helps the podcast reach more people - modern girls, modern boys.

    Death Becomes Her (1992)

Welcome to 'Don't You Want Me?' - a podcast series taking a lighthearted look at the most relatable, intriguing and dysfunctional relationships in film.
Today we’re drinking the potion with 1992’s Robert Zemeckis comic horror extravaganza Death Becomes Her, written by Martin Donovan and David Koepp. Bruce Willis is being fought over by Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn, the poor love, with bloody consequences. If you enjoy this episode, please leave us a rating or a review in your podcast app of choice - we would appreciate it more than the gift of eternal youth. How far can rivalry between friends stretch? How much of a toll does the crushing pressure to look a certain way take on our relationships? Have you ever found your head turned the wrong way? Joining us in the pool is friend of the pod, the fantastic actress, singer and writer Deb Tracey.

So I Married An Axe Murderer (1993)

So I Married An Axe Murderer (1993)

Welcome to 'Don't You Want Me?' - a podcast series taking a lighthearted look at the most relatable, intriguing and dysfunctional relationships in film.
Today we’re tucking into some haggis with 1993’s cult comedy classic So I Married an Axe Murderer, directed by Thomas Schlamme. Mike Myers plays a commitment-phobic chap - a recurring theme on this podcast - who meets his match in the form of the beautiful Harriet, played by Nancy Travis, though some meaty issues arise once they start to get to know one another.  If you enjoy this episode, please leave us a rating or a review in your podcast app of choice - we would appreciate it more than the world’s largest cappuccino. What is it about the pairing of Harriet and Charlie and all that comes with it that has led to this movie gathering so many devoted fans over the last thirty years? Well, who better to discuss this with than one of the writers of So I Married an Axe Murderer - it’s comedian and communication expert Neil Mullarkey.
