No one ever said life is easy. But I believe by giving yourself permission, you will find you have more control over your life than you realize. Hello, I'm Julie. I want to share with you, how my own personal life experiences led me to the person I am today. I have navigated through alcoholism, divorce, caregiving, blending families and discovering and owning my truth.
You don't have to feel alone with your hardships. I believe in reaching out and showing true compassion and empathy from a non-judgmental approach. I'm a mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, friend and soon to be wife. I'm just like you, a real person who is doing the best she can. I hope you will join me by taking responsibility for yourself, by only controlling the things you can and letting go of the things you can't. By doing this, you will have discovered the secret to having happy, healthy and more fulfilling relationships.
Please feel free to email me with any questions, comments or suggestions! I would like to give a shout out to Andreas Wohlfahrt, he is the photographer whose image I chose from Pexels, the photo of heart-shaped balloon, to be my podcast cover. The music I chose to use for my podcast was composed and played by The Lost Harmony. Please check out his music!

Mental Health Stigma - Part 2

Mental Health Stigma - Part 2

We have made some progress with our society handling mental health shaming. But we still have a long way to go. In this episode, I will continue to discuss how mental health conditions affect not only adults, but children as well.
We all have seen the heartbreaking tragedies that have resulted in school shootings across our country. I felt it more personally when Sandy Hook Elementary School, in Newtown Connecticut, was the target to every parent's worse nightmare. I was living in Connecticut at that time, on December 14, 2012 , when a mentally disturbed 20 year old man, killed 27 people and then himself. 20 first grade children, aged 6 and 7, had their young lives murdered.
Even though my grandchildren were living in another part of Connecticut, it shook me to my core to realize that every state and community, can fall prey to horror.
I believe in breaking down the barriers that prevent people from getting the professional help they need to get positive and healthy results from proper diagnosis's and treatment for their own mental health.
There is help. Take that first step and reach out to a mental health advocate.

    Mental Health Stigma-Part One

    Mental Health Stigma-Part One

We have made some progress with our society handling mental health shaming. But, we still have a long way to go. I think there still is a misconception about what mental health means. The World Health Organization definition is; Mental Health is "a state of well being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community."
We all go through tough and difficult times in our lives. How do we know if we have a mental health condition? Or if someone we care about does? Sometimes it can seem obvious when someone is going through a hard time but there is no simple way of knowing that it might be coinciding with a mental health concern. Only mental health professionals can diagnose an individual.

    Music - Play On!

    Music - Play On!

I am definitely old enough to remember vinyl albums, 8 track tapes, and cassettes. Whenever I was feeling happy, sad, or even mad, I would turn to listening to music. I still smile thinking about that sound of the needle hitting the vinyl album and anticipating the song that was about to be played.

Music unifies all races across the world. It doesn't matter that each culture from each nation is different. We all use music throughout our history for different occasions and for pure enjoyment purposes! I can't think of any other art form that is available for all of us, that leaves such a powerful and soulful connection so easily, quickly, and has the capability to expand our own self expression without any boundaries.

    Take A Leap Of Faith

    Take A Leap Of Faith

What does leap of faith mean? It means taking action for yourself and not having evidence that proves you will be successful in the end result of your own action. Pretty straightforward. I know when you hear the word faith, you probably think about religion. It also means having complete trust or confidence in someone or something. That someone, can also mean having complete trust in YOURSELF.

I have taken many leaps of faith in my life. This means that when difficult life choices are in front of you, YOU have to believe in your own abilities to make better life choices. It takes a true assessment of yourself and  recognizing your own internal struggles that you may have, as to why you are making those choices and ending up with the same result.

    Respect - Where Is It?

    Respect - Where Is It?

Remember when your parents or even your school teachers would tell you - if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all? Where is the line that stops people from using freedom of speech to feel they have the right to say whatever they want?
If those words are used, whether they are spoken aloud or put on paper, can hurt another person. This offense is part of the bigger problem - No Respect.
