S3:077 Job 31
In Job 31, Emma Dotter & Brent Buuemi ask the question: “How to keep up spiritual morale in dry season.” Brent compares suffering to having our face pressed against stained glass. Oftentimes we see the shattered glass and not the full picture. Brent & Emma talk to both types of listeners: those who have experienced severe suffering, and some maybe haven’t. Brent encourages us to solidify our beliefs before the trial that we experience so that when we are in the trial we are ready. Additional Scripture in this Podcast: Colossians 4:2, “Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving…” Proverbs 19:3 “When a man’s folly brings his way to ruin, his heart rages against the Lord.” John 16:33, “In this world, you will have trouble, but take heart, I have overcome the world.” 2 Timothy 3:12, “Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,” 1 Peter 4:12, “Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange was happening to you.” Daniel 3:18, “But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.” Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Hebrews 12:1, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses…” Hebrews 4:15, “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin…” Grab a NEW Join The Journey Journal for 2024: https://a.co/d/7rt0H3g Got kids? S3:076 Job 30
Suffering is designed by the enemy to destroy our faith, but God’s design for suffering is to strengthen our faith. So how do we have this perspective of suffering? In today’s podcast, Emma Dotter is joined by a faithful Watermark Member George Dalton to unpack this question. George leaves us with this thought, “I welcome the scalpel of the Spirit to continue to cut away the ugly dross in my heart so I can see God and be an effective tool in His hand.” Additional Scriptures in this Podcast: Romans 5:3-5, “Not only that, we rejoice in our suffering, knowing that suffering produces endurance, endurance produces character, produces hope…” Isaiah 48:10, “Behold I have refined you, not as silver, I have tried you in the furnace of affliction.” 1 Corinthians 10:13, “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability…” The book of James: the whole book reminds us of how to respond to suffering. Matthew 5:8, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” Grab a NEW Join The Journey Journal for 2024: https://a.co/d/7rt0H3g Got kids? S3:075 Job 29
In Job 29, Job is looking back and remembering his life before all these hard things happened. Sometimes, this is something that we can also do. However, something we see throughout Scripture is that suffering and hardships are what lead to intimate friendship with God. Emma Dotter and faithful Watermark Member Emily Hill unpack these truths and more in today’s Join the Journey Podcast. Additional Scripture in this Podcast: Jeremiah 17:7-8, “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream,” James 1:2-4, “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds…” Lamentations 3, You get to see the feeling of God not being there, but the reality that God is there. S3:073 Job 27
How can I fight the enemy with my actions? A common question for Christians, with many different answers. Emma Dotter interviews Lucas Esteves as he gives the listeners what may feel like a simple answer, but if you are willing to truly apply this practice, it can be radical. Lucas says we are simply to “Praise the Lord.” By using additional Scriptures throughout the Bible, Lucas articulates the example of Jesus in praising God amidst all circumstances. Additional Scriptures used in today’s podcast: Matthew 12:33-37, “for out of the abundance of the heart man speaks… I tell you on the day of judgement Matthew 15:11, “It is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person.” Job 1:21, “blessed be the name of the Lord…” Job 2:10, “You speak as one of the foolish women would speak Psalm 22:1, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Psalm 103:1-5, “Bless the Lord oh my soul, let all that is within me…” Matthew 27:46, “And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, ‘Eli, Eli, elm sabachthani?’ That is ‘My God, my God why have you forsaken me?’” Grab a Join The Journey Journal through the book of Psalms: https://a.co/d/7rt0H3g Got kids? Excellent Biblically Sound Resource!
If you’re looking for supplemental info, a companion podcast or motivation and encouragement to start walking through the Bible, look no further. This podcast along with the JTJ app have been excellent resources providing nothing but scripturally sound teaching. I really enjoy hearing from the WM members they have on as guest speakers as well as some of the elders occasionally 👌
