My spring concert season has officially kicked off!!! Man oh man do I LOVE this time of year!! Even though the weather can throw plans a bit off course, the music ALWAYS makes everything alright ;)
In this episode I share about my recent experience seeing two FANTASTIC bands! The Infamous Stringdusters & Umphrey's McGee :) I HIGHLY suggest getting to see both of them!! 
I'm also super JAZZED about heading off to New Orleans for 2 weeks of Jazz Fest!!

A good portion of my time on planet Earth has been spent daydreaming, projecting or dwelling, longing for things to be different, filled with a desire to be doing anything OTHER than what I was doing at the time. How about you?
And although I've been on a more awakeneded plane these past many years, it wasn't until a few weeks ago that I was presented with the verbal concept of, "I'd rather be doing what I'm doing."
Since then I have been very focused on that exact concept!! What's been extra cool is that I'm realizing that for quite some time that that HAS been my mindset! I just hadn't put it into words ;) Thank goodness for The Michael Singer Podcast, and most importantly the student he was referring to when he mentioned said student had made a bumper sticker with that exact message :)
In this episode I, in one form or another, ask the question, "If we'd rather not be doing what we're doing then why are we doing what we're doing?"
Take a listen as I share about my present experience with my present practice of living this concept AND hopefully be inspired to either deepen you're own practice OR begin to ask yourself this question so as to find your way to saying, "I'd rather be doing what I'm doing," and truly mean it! :)

On January 30th I officially kicked off my 2024 musical adventure around the sun with a performance by the Benny Hill Jazz Quartet! It was a spectacular benefit event raising money for the Cape Fear Community College's music department and it was a few hours WELL spent!!
Then on February 2nd I chose to once again celebrate what used to be my marriage anniversary by attending a concert, in order to make some new memories ;) This year I had the distinct pleasure of taking in a performance by Elvis Costello & The Imposters, with Charlie Sexton guesting in as well, and boy oh boy was my soul filled with MAGNIFICENT MUSICAL MELODIES!! 
In case you didn't know: I LOVE MUSIC!!! It truly does soothe this savage beast ;)

I spent my late teens, 20's & early 30's in a rather unwell mental state. I was roaring through the world like a tornado, generally unaware of how my behavior was regularly harming those around me and equally harming myself in ways that had me in a viscious cycle of self abuse.
Although I knew something was "off" with my mental health, I honestly didn't know what to do about it. So I drank and drugged my way through most of it, and when that made things even worse I drank and drugged more! That went on pretty much until my life hit a serious bottom on December 19th of 2000. Shortly thereafter I consciously embarked on a journey of recovery and self discovery which introduced me to the concept of mental wellness!! Since then I've been on an upward trajectory that has taken me places, emotionally and physically, that I never thought possible. 
One of the most important lessons I've learned thus far is that my mental health MUST matter to me! It's wonderful if it matters to others but MOST IMPORTANTLY is that it matter to me because if I'm not motivated to work on myself then it doesn't matter what others may have to offer.
In this episode I share about what a fantastic adventure I've been on since making MY mental health a priority, along with sharing ideas that may be helpful to you.
My mental wellness journey has allowed me to grow and heal in ways I never thought possible AND by caring for myself I've been able to be there for others who are hip to hopping on the positive mental health caravan ;) 
If you happen to be struggling in the mental health department I hope you hear something that inspires you to keep moving forward. YOU ARE WORTH IT!! WE ARE WORTH IT :)

Boundaries? What are those?! Aren't they something you set while playing basketball, or other sports? You set them to block the other person out right?! Or don't they relate to property lines?
Yup! That's what I thought for quite some time ;) Boy oh boy, was I rather surprised when I eventually learned that boundaries were also something I could set within my relationships! EMOTIONAL boundaries! What a concept ;) And even more surprising was how often I had disregarded other peoples boundaries due to my being ignorant of the concept ;) 
I'm happy to say I've come a long way baby!!
These day's I relish in setting boundaries! The growth that has taken place within, and the countless relationships that have been saved OR ended by setting them has been well worth every bit of time taken to become more familiar with the process and most importantly has been the willingness gained to continue to practice setting them :) 
Join me as I share my experience with boundaries, or lack thereof, along with sharing some examples that you can begin to implement yourself!
It's not always comfortable to place them... Its not always easy to accept when others place them... but both of those options are a BAZILLION times better than continuing to live a life without them. In my opinion anyway ;)
