    1) Break its own rules.
    2) Broadcast the greatest music video of all time.

To increase ratings and become more attractive to advertisers, MTV leans away from music videos. In so doing, they create some of the most influential shows of the 80s, which inspires a complaint that would follow them forever.

Who Killed the Video Star: The Story of MTV | The Last Peep Show

In the ‘90s, MTV is established enough to attract Bob Dylan to Unplugged and host its own Rock & Roll Inaugural Ball. Great trip down memory lane

The podcast I’ve been waiting for! I’m sure I’m not the only one who misses the greatness that was MTV. There’s nothing better than reliving that era than with someone who was boots on the ground. Hearing Dave’s voice is so nostalgic and I love how thorough this journey back in time has been. I still want my MTV!

Awesome!

I love this podcast. It’s more than nostalgia, although there’s nothing wrong with a little nostalgia!
It’s informative, an insider’s view, and a look back at all of the ways we have changed.
I never realized MTV really invented “Reality TV” even though no one realized it back then.
But I do remember when all of the best music was coming from the UK, and MTV was the only place to get it.
This podcast captures all of it.
I love learning how it happened, and reliving when it happened. This podcast lets me do both.
Thank you for this!

A must-listen for US GenXers

There’s a kind of Baby Boomer golden glow of nostalgic thinking about this show, but it was 100% worth the listen. I didn’t connect as much with a couple of the middle episodes (just like I didn’t connect as much with MTV in that era), but I’m glad I listened to the end, which was a great wrap up.
