Welcome to Idiotville - Erie, PA’s Liberal Conscience: We want you to be better, Erie. But you just keep screwing it up. Every time someone opens their mouth with a good idea, someone has to have a reason why not. That reason usually isn’t very well thought out, it usually involves thinly (or not so thinly) veiled racism. This town can move forward, but until we confront the demons that lurk here, we aren’t going anywhere. If you don’t like what we’ve got to say, come at us with a good take. Think it all the way out. Ben is the vice-president of the Jefferson Education Society – he discusses what JES does.

    The Ember+Forge Beer Segment!

The gang sampled Brewerie’s Peach Street Wheat – listen in to found out how this 4.5% traditional wheat lager fared under the scrutiny of the Idiots! Be sure to catch this segment LIVE every Wednesday on Facebook!
    AFTER THE BREAK:
Ben talks about working with James and Deb Fallows and the Our Towns Civic Foundation, and what that led to for him personally, and how he helped tell the story of Erie with them.
How did the initial contact with the Fallows move Ben and Erie into the forefront of national talk about re-emerging cities? How did the initial depictions of Erie in the media following the 2016 elections color the narrative about our city?

Idiotville #178: A Videogame Music Journey with Alex Messenger

Dill, Anna, and Brent are joined by the host of “A VGM Journey” – Alex Messenger!
Alex talks about his show, which is all about Video Game Music!
How do soundtracks influence your mood when you’re enjoying media? Does it enhance your enjoyment?
We talk branding, as well as good vs bad music and how that can affect your experience.
What’s your favorite licensed game? There’s some good choices here! This leads to a long tangent about the Aerosmith First Person Shooter that was out in arcades in the 1990’s.
We take some time to create our OWN licensed game – you’ll never believe where this one went.
The Ember+Forge Beer Segment! Listen in as we review Helles Lager from New Oberpfalz Brewing – it’s a traditional Bavarian Helles Lager, and we liked this one a lot! Listen in to find out how we rated it!
    After the Break:
Alex talks the VGM Podcast scene, gatekeeping, collaboration, and overlap.
He gets deep into his process for creating his show and what he does to stand out.
All this and SO MUCH MORE!

    Idiotville #177: A Big Surprise!

    Idiotville #177: A Big Surprise!

This week: It’s a full house, as Dill, Brent, Anna, and Jake are engaging in some serious shenanigans!
We’re joined by Marty and Margo!
Here’s a little Election Fallout: will Jake push through legal copper theft during his first term?
Which exactly are the anchor stores in the plaza at 26th and Sterrittania? We talk about moments when we did something that was, on the face of it, a kind gesture, but we did them mostly because we were impatient.
We have a brief chat about the County Executive race, hoping that the winner will do good things, but knowing in our hearts that even if he doesn’t, he will tell people that he has.
Door-to-door adventures with Dill, Jake, and Joe Schember!
It’s the first ever Ember+Forger Beer Segment! Listen in as we review “Never Sunny” – a New England IPA from Revelry Brewing in Charleston, SC! This is a tasty brew that was sent to us by Marty Balawkay. Listen in for some surprises!
After the Break: We have an extended talk with Marty and Margo about Charleston and the newest addition to Charleston in Charge, Doug from Florida!
We also have a great discussion about the huge gap in cost of living between Charleston and Erie!
All this and SO MUCH MORE!

Idiotville #176: The Wesleyville Connection of Jake Wilder and Paul Bills!

Idiotville #176: The Wesleyville Connection of Jake Wilder and Paul Bills!

This week: It’s a full house, as Dill, Brent, Anna, and Ted sit down with outgoing Wesleyville Mayor Paul Bills and Democratic Candidate for Wesleyville Borough Council, our very own Jake Wilder.
Erieworkingman.com is for sale, and it’s $10k if you’re Brenton Davis, significantly less if you’re everyone else!
The best news is first: Paul had a clean bill of health when he had his most recent check-up, meaning he’s clear from the aneurisms that he talked about in episode #121.
Why didn’t he run for Mayor again? Why did he convince Jake to run for council? Why did Jake agree? We talk about Jake’s ideas for Wesleyville, as well as what’s happening there right now, including public safety, spending, and building the tax base with businesses! The LAST Atacolypse Food Truck Beer Segment of 2021: Paul brought us Haulin’ Oats, an American Brown Ale, from Five & 20 Spirits and Brewing (5.6%ABV and 12 IBU) Listen in to find out how we rated it. You can always catch this segment live on Facebook around 5:30 on Wednesdays!
    After the Break:
Can we take pictures of our ballot? Can we have Jake’s victory party on the Brig Niagara? (This leads us down one of Jake’s winding Erie History Tales, but this one is accurate and it’s dynamite)What are Jake’s thoughts on the godawful parking situation in Wesleyville and what can be done to revitalize the Route 20 corridor?Be on the lookout for the “Paul Bills Mayoral Free Little Library” coming soon to a front yard in Wesleyville! All this and SO MUCH MORE!

Idiotville #175: Jay Breneman, Erie's REAL Working Man

Idiotville #175: Jay Breneman, Erie's REAL Working Man

This week: Dill, Brent, and Jake are joined in the studio by Erie’s REAL working man (he bought the web domain, that’s proof enough) Jay Breneman!
You may be saying to yourself, “The real working man? I thought decorated veteran and owner of the only pair of work boots Brent Davis held that title!”
Well, like everything else Brenton talks about, there’s a tiny grain of truth surrounded by an ocean of deception and an avalanche of lies. Jay is with us to bring those lies into the light.
Jay talks about where he comes from: an impoverished upbringing, joining the Army right after 9/11, seeing multiple combat tours, then using what he got from his service to help him advance his life and career. See, Jay doesn’t lord his service over people, he instead uses it as a way to assist them. He did a stint on County Council, even serving as president, and now has several different projects going.
We talk about several things regarding military service: Why do people who’ve not seen action have a tendency to aggrandize the character of their service? Why do very few join for the wrong reasons? Why do they think they won’t get caught?
The Atacolypse Food Truck Beer Segment: Dill’s cousin brought us some Feuergeist from New Oberpfalz Brewing in Griffith, IN. This is a not-to-powerful IPA (6.4% abv/73 ibu) that we really enjoyed. Listen in to find out how we rated it. You can always catch this segment live on Facebook around 5:30 on Wednesdays!
After the Break: Jay actually DID some of the things that Brenton claimed to do – those that he didn’t pull from books and movies. Or news clippings. Mid-show, we debunk Brent’s claim about the BUDS knot-tying test as Dill finds a suspiciously familiar-sounding story by googling “SEAL knot-tying test”. You should try it.
Brenton doesn’t just make claims about his military service – now he’s claiming to have “stacked up” with the Erie Police in what is either an illegal action by the police or an outright lie by Brenton. We’ll let you, dear listener, decide for yourself.
Why do people who know Brenton Davis all eventually wind up disliking him so much? It’s a question that answers itself.
All this and SO MUCH MORE!

Idiotville #174: Happy Trails to Ted Hallowell

Idiotville #174: Happy Trails to Ted Hallowell

This Week's Idiots: Dill, Brent, Anna, and Ted Brogan

Ted Hallowell joins the crew at CAM Studios on this week’s delayed episode to talk about the end of his time here in Erie!
That’s right, folks, Ted Hallowell is headed to College Station, TX!
He talks to us about the end of his time at Star 104 and iHeart.
We get into some weird Western PA wedding talk: Cookie tables, donuts instead of cake, terrible towels and entrance music!
It *IS* the month of Dill – his Iowa Hawkeyes, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Atlanta Braves are all having quite an October! Listen to him gloat!
    =====================================================================
The Atacolypse Food Truck Beer Segment: We sit down and try “Leaf Peeper” from Logyard Brewing out of Kane, PA – this is a quality Oktoberfest beer, listen in to hear what we think about it! We play a little “Where’s the Conquistador?” and explain the concept of “Mexican Applesauce” to Ted H. You can always catch this segment live on Facebook around 5:30 on Wednesdays!
    =====================================================================
    After the Break:
We all have our own theme song – why don’t you?Is Ted going to continue his pro wrestling career in Texas? What’s after No Hugging, No Learning? We discuss the fact that there’s no evidence of “Yes, Dear” anywhere except YouTube, which segues into a bit of a tangent from Dill and Ted H. What HAS Ted been doing in his time off? All this and SO MUCH MORE!

Fun Erie-Based Pod

It’s fun to have a podcast that hits on specific local topics and nuance. The entire Idiotville crew has an excellent rapport, which makes each episode feel like you’re jumping into a discussion with a fun circle of friends.

On top of that, they also have interviews with local and regional people of interest, like representative Ryan Bizzarro and congressional candidate Kristy Gnibus. This pod is definitely worth a download and listen!

Unlistenable

The “host”, Mr. Dill Spears, is essentially a Wish version of Seth Rogen. This insufferable group of canoes lament that Erie is laden with issues and negativity, and inexplicably believe that more leftist policy is the Rx for what woes us - nevermind that Erie is where it is because of decades of left wing policy. There is nothing interesting, funny, or entertaining about this show and they owe me for the time I wasted giving them a chance.

A great podcast for Erie and beyond!

I really enjoy the perspective these guys offer and a good laugh every so often as well. Podcasts in Erie are on the rise and Idiotville leads the way!
