Immigration and Democracy

This is well worth a listen! International perspective.

My grandparents immigrated from Italy more than a century ago. Even then there were strict quotas on whom to “let in.” We are a republic formed by indigenous people, descendants of both Anglo/European pioneers and former slaves, immigrants, and refugees from around the world. I’m grateful for a program that gives serious thought and voice to issues of immigration policy and how as a country we can progress through laws that are fairly executed, or when needed, changed. I’m looking forward to more episodes. Thank you. Special shout out for the superb soundtrack!!

I just arrived in the US a couple years ago, just before turning 18, and living in New York, I hear all the time from others, that “New York isn’t the same as the rest of the US”, and I’m only beginning to understand why. I had always been at a loss when I heard it, because I wasn’t exposed to anything different. So this program is really enlightening! Exposure and education are critical to understanding our society and democracy.

This podcast is exactly what I’ve been looking for these last 4 years as my interest in domestic immigration issues and policy has increased. I look forward to each new episode and trust the content is going to be solid coming from Harvard. I have not been disappointed. Each week is different and exciting to hear from multiple perspectives. My own professional work centers on refugee resettlement, and I’m thrilled to finally have a podcast I can recommend to anyone interested in human migration! Keep up the great work IIH!
