In The Dark
In the Dark, hosted by Madeleine Baran, is an award-winning investigative-journalism podcast that started in 2016. Its first season looked at the mysterious abduction of Jacob Wetterling in rural Minnesota and the lack of accountability that sheriffs face when they fail to solve cases. Season 2 examined the case of Curtis Flowers, who was tried six times for the same crime. In 2020, In the Dark released a special report on the coronavirus pandemic in the Mississippi Delta. In 2023, In the Dark joined The New Yorker and Condé Nast. “The Runaway Princesses,” a four-part series that asks why the women in Dubai’s royal family keep trying to run away, came out in January. In the Dark is a two-time Peabody Award winner and, in 2019, became the first podcast to win a George Polk Award, one of the top honors in journalism. The program has also received an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award and a Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award.

Excellent podcast/reporting
The team is very thorough and do not shy away from the hard truths and exposing them. The podcast is also well produced, no loud music competing with the narration/interviews. Well done. Please keep up the excellent work.
Sad Story

Great reporting of a very sad incident. I would love for you to report on the 13 Americans that were left to die. About the innocent Americans killed during the riots in this country. Or about the 100s of Americans killed while serving for your freedom to report.
Best reporting ever

Best reporting and podcast team ever! Love listening to anything they make.
Among the Greatest
Baran and her team rank among the greatest American investigative journalists ever, alongside the likes of Ida Tarbell, Ray Baker, Ida B. Wells, Seymour Hersh, and Woodward/Bernstein. In the Dark isn’t a case of a reporter getting a lucky tip or a scoop. The killings in Winona and Haditha were well known and covered by hundreds of journalists. Only the team of Baran, Freemark, Yesko, et. al. who had the tenacity, inventiveness, and courage to get to the truth in these cases. It’s remarkable, we almost beyond belief. Alongside their amazing journalism skills, I would hazard a conjecture that In the Dark’s success stems from a deep well of empathy and a keen sense of justice. They’ve spent years alongside the Flowers family and the families in Haditha in hopes that they might ameliorate pain inflicted by cruel institutions. They inspire their listeners and make this world a better place.
