Confessions from an advisor on the realities of wealth

Confessions from an advisor on the realities of wealth

In this latest episode, John Christianson, a member of NCF’s Generosity Council in the Pacific Northwest, shares powerful insights from when he first started working as a professional advisor. What he discovered was that people coming into wealth often felt overwhelmed by it. So, he decided to look at it by phases, examining the different needs that accompany each stage. And each stage helps create the roadmap for the next step, establishing clarity and confidence rather than despair and confusion.

Jeremy Courtney, loving his neighbors on the front lines in the Middle East

Jeremy Courtney, loving his neighbors on the front lines in the Middle East

In the aftermath of September 11, Jeremy Courtney of Preemptive Love Coalition moved to the Middle East to serve in the midst of chaos and violence that would make most of us run the other way. Instead, his family chose to move toward the devastation, to be neighbors. Jeremy joined us on our Inside Giving podcast several months ago to give us an up-close and very personal look from the neighborhoods that are on the front lines in Syria and Iraq, where war and violence had destroyed whole towns "street by street by street." But, Jeremy says, “Violence doesn’t get the last word. We do. It seeks to drive us apart through fear. That’s why we have to show up on the front lines of conflict and love anyway.”

Two friends on a mission to rescue kids in forgotten places

Two friends on a mission to rescue kids in forgotten places

This episode of Inside Giving features a guest all the way from Egypt: Magdy Bassaly. As the President of Better for Kids, Magdy ministers to some of the most vulnerable children in the world. Magdy shares alongside his friend, Todd Harrison, an NCF giver who founded his ministry. After a divine encounter, Todd and Magdy realized they shared a vision to love kids in need of rescue. So they started Better for Kids Christian pre-school academies. Twelve years later, they’ve seen the lives of more than 5,000 children transformed across 10 countries, where very few Christian ministries are present. Listen to hear firsthand how Magdy and Todd see God working miracles every day in the heart of communities around the world.

Learn about giving

Great episodes about faithful Christian living and giving generously. Happy to hear the interviews, particularly enjoyed a recent one with a ministry in the Middle East.

Glad to see NCF doing podcast

NCF is one of my favorite ministries, period. It is also a hands-down leader in the world of philanthropy, faith based or otherwise. While I'm glad to see NCF doing a podcast, there are a few tweaks I'd love to see to bring it up to a 5-star review (in my opinion).
- have the couple or individual in question be a guest on the podcast, the way NCF's videos do. Always nicer to hear the giver give their own testimony.
- this feels like it's marketed to a regional audience. The two speakers sound like they are middle-aged, white, men (which I am), from the South (which I am not). The tenor and, oftentimes, even the content of the conversation make this a difficult podcast for me to pass along to givers in my region who would be otherwise unfamiliar with NCF. Bottom line, if this is a podcast to strengthen the NCF base, it's a winner. If it's a marketing tool to broaden NCF's audience outside the South, I think it would do well to shape it like the new givers who are listening. "Go where the donors are" and contextualize.
- make it slightly longer, in the 12 to 15 minute range. I thought the three C's were very astute takeaways and would love to hear those unpacked more by the podcast leaders.
