Matthews resident ,

Kress Query episode

Hi Jim,

In this episode Kress talks about hiring the first black police officer. Well, I just met him! Willie Young and his wife Sarah still run Young’s Flower Cart in Matthews and I just bought flowers from them. I had no idea who he was until his wife told me his history. I believe Willie is 90 years old at this point. Has the town ever honored Willie? If not, they should.

Thanks,

Tim Long

Highlights Matthews People, History, and Community

As a resident of Matthews, N.C., I’m happy to subscribe to a podcast about the town I live in and love. Jim Taylor is a genuine person and I appreciate his conversation style and support his reasons for creating this platform. As a Matthews resident since 2001, I can’t wait to learn more about the Matthews history and to listen to future guests who are a part of our community in one way or another. I look forward to the next episode.
