Inside Plano: How to Quickly Shut Off Your Water and the Tools You Need

Inside Plano: How to Quickly Shut Off Your Water and the Tools You Need

You can easily shut off your main water line to prevent property damage from a broken water pipe or water leak.
To shut off the water you will need a water meter key and box lid key. They are readily available at home improvement stores, but you may be able to borrow one from a neighbor or friend.
The City of Plano water meter box is typically located in the easement in front of your house, near the street. Use the box lid key to remove the lid, then use the meter key to turn the water valve at least 90 degrees to shut off the water.
Step by step instructions can be downloaded from our website at share.plano.gov/WaterShutOff
