Beer, Tech, Good Times

Two friends who love beer and work in the tech industry in the Bay Area. Great concept, great execution.

As a Southern California native who's lived in L.A., Orange and San Diego counties, and someone who makes a few trips to the Bay Area every year, their beer choices really speak to me. I discovered them via an Instagram hashtag, of all things, for Modern Times' Effective Dreams IPA. Listening to that episode as I polished off my own supply of Effective Dreams was an instant way to get hooked.

While the podcast favors the Bay Area and Southern California at times (a natural byproduct of Nick's and Jay's life experiences), its scope isn't limited to California or even the West Coast - for fans of Trillium, Tree House, and other breweries across the country, there's also something in it for you. I appreciate that, but personally prefer the California focus as it's what they know best, what I know best, and also aligns with the tech topics.

I find the tech topics interesting for the most part, but sometimes they can be a little too specific or even a universal topic can go too deep for my taste. So in many cases, I listen to the full beer segment, about 5-10 minutes of tech talk, and if I have time I'll then skip ahead to the "unplugged"/candid conversation at the end of the show.

I'm in this for the beer, and sometimes wish it would get as much time as tech if not more. But overall this is a great podcast that's well produced, and the strong friendship Nick and Jay have make it a fun listen.

Great podcast but yes, like someone else said, every time I listen to it, i need to drink a beer or two or three. They very well may contribute to my drunkenness. Note to self- just listen to them on the weekends. Lol

But that's what makes for a great show-when the podcasters' vivid descriptions of the beers make me/anyone drink a beer and try their recommendations. 🍻🍻🍻
