211 - The Farewell Episode with Jeff Peterson

211 - The Farewell Episode with Jeff Peterson

Episode 211 is the farewell episode for It's No Secret with Dr T., and I thought I would bring back my good friend, previous guest and long-term supporter of the podcast Jeff Peterson to help my say goodbye.
Jeff Peterson is the owner of Geneva Supply and was a guest on the show back on Episode 017 with Bill Davis, titled Drive Your Business.
In addition to bidding farewell, I did manage to draw some more business wisdom from Jeff before we hung up the microphone.
    Today we discuss:
Working with Amazon Helping manufacturers with Content & Brand Management  What takes to get noticed Why entrepreneurship is b******t Intrapreneurship - the creative entrepreneurial spirit within an organisation Why you should not ask family and friends what they think of your ideas, just remember the bad singers you've seen on American Idol, someone told them they were good at singing.  Why you should have a business card. "When you're living in a world where there are many generations that are still in the working community, you cannot go hardcore just one way when it corms to networking".
BIZTANK & Kids in The Tank
It's about career exploration. School is not connecting kids to the reality of life or the career paths that they will be heading into very soon after school.
It's about exposing them to new possibilities. The key is to empower kids that their career decision is their decision. It's not their parents or school guidance councillor.
We need to open and expose their minds to other careers.
    Final Tip
Don't shy away from people you know and enjoy being with and talking too. Don't think about what you're going to get to from it, just enjoy the pleasure of peoples company.
Get to know people just to get to know people, nurture friendships in an old-school, business card sort of way.
Don't focus on all the social media and quick online fixes (number of friends, likes, etc.). Build real relationships.
    Farewell
It's kind of sad to bid farewell, but you've got to know when it's time to walk away, and now is the right time.
I'd like to thank everyone that has been a guest on It's No Secret with Dr T. and all the people that have been part of the 55,000 downloads over the past 211 episodes.

210 - Business Agility & Leading Teams with Stephen Pozzebon

210 - Business Agility & Leading Teams with Stephen Pozzebon

Stephen Pozzebon is the Regional Head of Organisational Management, Australia & New Zealand for Allianz Partners.
On this episode, Stephen will be sharing his wisdom and knowledge when it comes to managing and leading teams and business agility, which is especially important right now with how the world has changed with COVID-19.
    We also discuss:
How leading teams has changed with COVID-19 Being in Italy before the pandemic hitting Australia Moving 80% of his team to work from home Keeping people connected and social interactions Working at different companies during the GFC and using this experience now with COVID-19 Born leadership versus developed leadership The difference between corporate and private enterprise and the speed of implementation Unpacking strategy into proper execution Warm and fuzzy powerpoints by outside consultants are no longer good enough. Changing and adapting to thinking faster Team empowerment and accountability Difference between failing and learning  Setting up FEEDBACK LOOPS Avoiding complacency  How the business landscape will change Post COVID-19  Guidance
To lead a team, you don't necessarily need to lay out ground rules, it's more like providing guardrails and keeping the team on the same road.
    Measuring Culture
Doing a survey once per year is not a good measure of culture and engagement of an organisation it's more of a pulse, and therefore it should be done more often.
"One of the biggest mistakes a company can make is watching its closest competitor and not listening to their own customer needs".
    Final Tip
Now, more than ever, you need to be engaged with your people and customer, and if you're a B2B business, the partners in your supply chain.
It's time to listen to your partners and understand what all these parties are going through. You need to support each other, and together you will come out stronger.

209 - Marketing Post Covid-19 with Justin Blake

209 - Marketing Post Covid-19 with Justin Blake

Justin Blake is the owner of Justin Blake Media, and on this episode, we discuss marketing and what you should be doing now and post COVID-19. What you do now will set you up for when we come out the other end.
The biggest problem facing many small business owners is what they think marketing is, and more often than not, it's not marketing, it's wishful thinking.
    On this episode we discuss:
Word of Mouth Marketing and why it is flawed It's too slow You're not in control of it. The message relayed about your business could be incorrect. Social media and the internet are at our fingertips but: You need to focus on your ideal client. Who do you want to work with?  You need to know where they are, and you need to be there.  You need to have the right message and talk to them in a way they understand.  You cannot expect people to know what you do, so educate them.
Why are you different? The importance of claiming your Google My Business Page Landing pages  Google Adwords Why you need to stay in touch with your database through newsletters, online demonstrations, etc., you need to give them the information they are searching for.  Customer service and training your team, especially the person answering your phone.  Final Tip
Marketing is not scary, especially in these worrying times, but don't sit back and rely on what you've done in the past. Now is the perfect time to up your game, take stock of where you are right now and make a plan for the future.

208 - RAW Worldwide African Safaris with Shane Ross

208 - RAW Worldwide African Safaris with Shane Ross

Raw Worldwide African Safaris is owned and operated by Shane Ross, a Cairns local who is passionate about sharing the wildlife wonders of Africa.
As Shane explains, it's virtually impossible to tell what you'll feel seeing 50,000 Wilderbeast during the Great Migration or hearing a Lion roaring in the distance while you sleep safely in your tent. (Far better experience than visiting a zoo)
Africa is a land of real magic - it exists in every living thing, around every corner you turn, and occupies even the most distant horizons. Africa abounds with mystical creatures, enchanted forests, and arguably the richest cultural diversity of any continent worldwide, and is still a land of ample opportunity - where authentically wild adventures and exploration are easily sought.
Believe me, after you listen to this episode you'll want to book a trip immediately, and if you do feel that way, visit www.raw-worldwide.com asap.
