An Important Part of Our History to Remember in the Age of Trump

I loved listening to the Living Deal podcast. It was inspiring to learn about Elenor and Franklin Roosevelt’s underlying spiritual belief about the obligation of the wealthy and privileged to responsible generous and responsible behavior towards those less fortunate. There brand of Christianity in action confronting the suffering of so many of their fellow citizens during the Great Depression created the massive public works programs that put our country back to work. It is good to know about the Living Deal which documents the legacy of the new deal projects and their continuing impact today such as the public art that flourished during this time and national park infrastructure which we enjoy to this day. Awareness of the power of government to materially improve the lives of ordinary citizens and the example of the Roosevelt’s to use their power for good is a source of hope during the era of Trump and the current crisis of public confidence.
