jessica CARE moore  is the founder and CEO of Moore Black Press, executive producer of Black WOMEN Rock!, and founder of the literacy-driven, Jess Care Moore Foundation. An internationally renowned poet, playwright, performance artist, and producer.   Her work has been published in numerous literary collections and she has performed on stages all over the world, including, The Apollo Theater, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the London Institute for Contemporary Arts. 

We talk about:

growing up in Detroit in a working class household going to a Catholic mostly white school until high school and finding her place in different worlds
speaking up and pushing back politically starting in junior high
becoming part of Black box theater and how that and her teacher blew her mind and life open
becoming an activist in college and organizing and bringing people together to make change
seeing what is missing and creating it from Black Women Rock to her own printing press
moving to NYC and searching and finding and befriending all of her favorite poets and doing open mics
winning 5 weeks in a row at Apollo Amateur night (until they retired her)
having the top literary agent and so much publicity but not getting a book deal so launching her own printing press
