167-Managing Plant Diseases Organically, with Jeff Gillman

167-Managing Plant Diseases Organically, with Jeff Gillman

Plant diseases pose one of the biggest challenges that gardeners face, and while it can be tempting to reach for a chemical control, managing plant diseases organically is possible. To speak to that fact, I invited Dr. Jeff Gillman on the podcast a couple of years back, and I am revisiting that conversion this week because now is that time of summer when plant diseases show themselves in a garden that otherwise appeared healthy up until this point.

166-Tracing the History of Heirloom Seeds, With Seed Savers Exchange

Every seed has a story to tell, if someone will listen. This week, I asked Sara Straate, the seed historian for Seed Savers Exchange, to come on the show and explain the work that goes into tracing the history of heirloom seeds that, in many cases, came to the exchange after being saved for generations by home gardeners. Seed Savers Exchange in Decorah, Iowa, is one of the country’s largest non-governmental seed banks, with more than 20,000 varieties in its ever-growing collection.

My favorite garden knowledge podcast

The review that caught my attention as I was coming to write this said "I feel like I have a friend in Joe" and this is TRUE! I've only been gardening for two years but I wouldn't be able to do it without Joe. From the tomato cage I emulated to the youtube videos and podcast episodes, Joe Lamp'l has increased my chance for success in the garden.

Joe, if you're reading this, I need to know your take on succulents. Do you have them in your home? If your home is as perfect as your garden, I'd bet you do. I'd love a podcast episode!

I feel like I have a friend n Joe

Have been bindge listening since March when my career took a nose dive due to the pandemic. Gardening has always been therapeutic, and this year more then ever. But never before have I had a buddy to show me the ropes. The podcast with Joe and the professionals he brings on enlighten my day, reassure me and encourage me to do my best. High five for doing such a great job teaching and busting myths. I have the best garden of my life this year and my only regret is not staking the tomatoes like I was told. For the next 3 months I will deal with a tomato jungle to remind me what I am building during the off season.

URGENT PODCAST REQUEST: please address the current happenings of mystery seeds landing in American’s mail. This is super scary. I believe you can reach many people. Thank you for everything!
