20. Jordan Marie Whetstone: It Takes a Community, Elevating Voices & Being an Advocate You Are A Big Deal with Becca Jay

    • Personal Journals

Jordan Marie Whetstone (she/they) is a mom, a wife, a runner, advocate, a community organizer, a voice, a connector, a public speaker, a filmmaker, a heart worker, a changemaker and a storyteller. She is a Professional Athlete Advocate who runs for justice for Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women and Relatives, Black Lives, Asian Lives, and Lives taken or experiencing racial, social and climate injustice. Jordan is a member of the Kul Wicasa Lakota and a citizen of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe. Jordan is the founder and organizer of Rising Hearts, an Indigenous led grassroots group designed to elevate awareness of Indigenous issues and the intersectionality of all movements impacting Brown, Black and Indigenous communities. The group helps to uplift and center Indigenous voices and efforts, while building collaborative partnerships to accomplish equitable and just treatment of all people and the Earth through targeted organizing and advocacy. Participating in prayer runs is an important part of Jordan’s activism. These runs raise awareness for specific Native causes and they are healing for Jordan and help her recenter her focus on her loved ones. She is a fourth generation Brings Three White Horses runner and continues this family legacy. She represents Indigenous athletes and relatives working to uplift and center Indigenous, Black, and Brown voices within these communities and spaces to demand justice, visibility, and respect as it intersects across all climate - racial - social - and economic justice movements.

We talk about pregnancy, parenting, partnership and presence! Jordan talks about how grateful she is for her partner, family and friends who have been able to share moments together as a village, in community. Jordan shares about the importance of a new template for filmmakers to follow, one that is taking care of ALL people involved in production. She is all about elevating voices and collective action.
