Allyship

Wow, it’s so great to see a podcast where the hosts who are both white and male are true allies to women, trans people and POC.

He often calls out white males for their bigotry and evilness on the show.

The only thing that would make JJHO’s allyship more complete is if he stepped down from his position of power in the show and put a black trans woman in his place.

He should of course also sell his possessions and give them to a black trans woman, too, otherwise he’s not really practicing what he preaches.

Otherwise the show is hilarious! A great comedy podcast for all ages races and gender identities, except for white males.

Fun, Smart, and Kind

I really don’t know why it’s taken me so long to review this podcast which was the first non-NPR podcast I started listening to. I could say the usual things one says about podcasts here - it’s fun and smart - and that’s true. But, more importantly, it’s kind, and I’ve somehow increased my kindness toolkit through it. It’s cliche to joke about White men making podcasts, but, honestly, I was truly grateful for John and Jesse when the world destabilized in 2016 and I had examples of kind straight White men who know how to look beyond themselves. Thank you for being a constant I can rely on.

Gross

I think John Hodgman & Jesse Thorne now see the mission of this podcast as to divide through identity politics rather than to unite through humor.

It’s especially disheartening during this time when the media and certain activist groups are really fanning the flames of racial discord in this country. I guess I should expect nothing less from a leftist media elite. Capitalizing on and monetizing existing racial tensions is their game.

Used to be a good show until JJHO became unironically self-righteous. He went on a rant saying that the act of wearing a MAGA hat is equivalent to actual violence against minorities.

I guess he equates support for the current president as something only racist, white males do, when in fact about 50% of the population support him, including a higher percentage of blacks than any republican president since the 70’s. Black owned business increased 400% since Trump came into office and Black unemployment was at an all time low until CV broke out.

This is the main reason you will hear the media and Democrat shills like JJHO reciting ad nauseum the mantra that trump and his supporters are racist - they’re very afraid they will lose their stranglehold on the black vote.

But...JJHO and Jesse Thorne can’t get away from their inherent white, male tendencies of constantly telling others what they should believe.

Every show and every guest brings an opportunity for JJHO to express his Twitter echo-chamber political views.

He constantly apologizes for being a “white, cis, male,” etc. He uses the term “white people” as a pejorative in spite of the fact that he is as white and privileged as they come, and I’m going to guess most of his audience is white.

I don’t understand how someone so wise, humane, and insightful can 1. Buy into this completely toxic cult of cultural Marxism and 2. Have so little self awareness of how insecure and cringey he comes off.

Sad to see how brainwashed JJHO has become.

I still listen to the show sometimes but I’m giving this one star and unsubscribing on principal.
