Juneteenth is an annual holiday that celebrates the end of slavery in the United States. Commemorating June 19, 1865, the day a group of enslaved Black people in Galveston, Texas, finally learned they were free — some two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
