Keeping Time S6, E03: Manuel Emch, Louis Erard

Our guest for this episode of Keeping Time with Oster Watches Podcast is Manuel Emch. A truly creative visionary, Manuel brings incredible enthusiasm and impeccable design sense to the watch industry. As an independent consultant, Manuel utilizes his time to explore different projects as well as mentoring some of the most talented up and coming watchmakers.
Join us for this episode as we discuss Manuel's origins, journey and motivations. He became the Swatch Group's youngest ever Brand President, 20 years ago, when Manuel took the reins and developed the historically important brand, Jaquet Droz. With a keen eye for design and a deep respect for history, Manuel built a successful luxury brand around the inspired Grande Seconds design inspired by an original creation of Jaquet Droz. Today, the focus of the conversation turns to his vision for the exciting brand, Louis Erard. With a deep respect for "Métiers d'Art" including Grand Feu enamel dials and engine-turned guilloché dials Manuel saw an opportunity to create extraordinary watches at surprisingly affordable prices. We discuss the collection and how he is able to create such competitively priced, highly desirable and collectible timepieces. We also discuss the exciting collaborations which to date include Vianney Halter and Alain Silberstein.
The conversation flows as Manuel shares his passion and insights and, eager as ever for knowledge, host Jeremy Oster is keen to encourage further depth and discussion in this engaging conversation. The subject turns to Manuel's eagerness to mentor and assist the next generation of talented watchmakers, including Rexhap Rexhapi. We hope that you enjoy this episode of Keeping Time Podcast.

Keeping Time S6, E01 James Lamb, James Lamb Watches

Our guest for the first episode of Season 6 is James Lamb, a British watchmaker and Member of the British Horological Institute. Join us as we discover James Lamb Watches and the release of The Origin series, James' first collection of individually created handmade watches.

The Elements (Earth, Air, Fire and Water) provide the inspiration and theme to be explored in the four pieces that make up the collection. James brings the watches to life for us in an engaging conversation that is focused on the methods used by James in the creation of the new pieces. We discuss the beautiful art of forging and forming Argentium watch cases, largely by traditional methods, with each piece being individual and full of character. We explore the methods used for each of the unique dials and the techniques such as cloisonné enamel that capture the essence of the elemental inspirations.

James Lamb is a craftsman seeking to gain mastery of all aspects of watchmaking. Our conversation is engaging and natural with tremendous insight into the many dimensions that encompass the art of traditional horology. Like a personal gallery tour by the artist, James brings his works to life with eloquent illumination as he invites us to join him on his personal quest to attain creative freedom.

Insightful and Interesting

Jeremy gets to the heart of each interview and asks the questions no one else does but that everyone wants answered. I like the dynamic with Doug because technical terms and ideas get broken down so that even a novice enthusiast will understand. Love the introductions too…very informative!

In Depth and Insightful

Jeremy and Doug go beyond headlines and superficial topics, exploring the people, crafts, and business of horology. There is knowledge and insight to be gained from every episode to which I have listened. Jeremy's guests are well chosen and share candid information about watches and watchmaking that are not commonly heard in coverage of this industry. Keep up the good work!

The Most Interesting Podcast On Watches

This is the best podcast on watches that I’ve found. It doesn’t just focus on the watch itself but Jeremy gets great interviews out of the watchmakers. You feel like you get to know a little bit about the people and the brands behind the watches. I love learning about this history, the techniques,
