KDP Ep 041: Keto Has A Messaging Problem

KDP Ep 041: Keto Has A Messaging Problem

Howdy gang!  CBS News had a hit piece on Keto that I just felt the need to unpack.  Also, I wanted to give a few exciting updates on what's going on with my own personal journey to better health.
    In this episode we cover:
Why we need to move from calling Keto "high fat"
Why ketosis comes from carb restriction
Does Keto cause your "bad cholesterol" to rise?
Does Keto increase your risk for arrhythmias?
Does increased meat consumption and TMAO worsen your risk for heart disease?
Should Keto and Intermittent Fasting be considered "trendy"?
Why all diets have low compliance rates
    And more....

As always, I ask that if you find value in the show, please share it and/or leave us a review.  It's through these steps that we grow and impact others.

KDP Ep 040: Modern Stone Age Living with Dr. Bill Schindler

KDP Ep 040: Modern Stone Age Living with Dr. Bill Schindler

Hello again folks!  I am very excited about today's guest.  Dr. Bill Schindler is the founder and director of the Eastern Shore Food Lab, an Associate Professor of Anthropology and Archaeology at Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland and the co-star of both the National Geographic series, The Great Human Race and Curiosity Stream’s, The Modern Stone Age Family.
He is a food archaeologist, primitive technologist and chef.  He travels the world documenting traditional food ways and works to draw inspiration from the deep archaeological record, rich and diverse ethnographic record and modern culinary world to create food solutions that are relevant, meaningful and accessible today.  Bill is a strong advocate of traditional foodways and is constantly seeking new ways to incorporate lessons learned from his research into the diets of modern humans.  His outlook on food has revolutionized the way in which he and his family eat and he attributes much of the health his wife and three children enjoy to the nutrient dense hunted, gathered, and fermented foods that comprise a significant portion of their diets.  He empowers people around the world to eat like humans again by reconnecting them with their food, past, environment and communities through speaking, teaching and writing.

KDP Ep 039: Primal, Keto, and Mindset with Lindsay Taylor, PhD

Hey gang!  Super excited to get to share today's episode with you, and just in time for the new year.  Today's guest is Lindsay Taylor, PhD.  You may know her from her work with Mark Sisson and Mark's Daily Apple, Keto Reset, Primal Health Coach Institute, or one of her keto cookbooks.
Lindsay is Senior Writer and Researcher at Mark Daily's Apple, as well as a Primal Health Coach, author, endurance runner, and soccer mom.  In this episode we discuss her journey into primal and keto, running a large keto community page, growth mindset, and prioritizing what's truly important over being fixated on superficial health markers (ie scale weight or pants size).
This is a very needed conversation in today's "30 day Keto Abs" social media driven society.  I'm sure you will receive value from this episode!
Be sure to check out Lindsay's website: www.lindsaytaylor.co

No Dogma

A refreshing combo of medical professional and nutrition enthusiast. Most keto podcasts routinely bash doctors and the like for their ignorance (not necessarily unwarranted), but not here.

The best feature is the lack of zealotry and evidence based nutrition. The advice fits the evidence instead of a lot of podcasts where they are so set in their dogma they refuse to change their views in the face of clear science and choose to manipulate the data to their needs or ignore it altogether.

Different types of keto are explored here (there are many different versions for specific goals), which is a byproduct of the lack of zealotry mentioned earlier.

No idea about most of the dental geekiness, but I do now use a water pick to irrigate my teeth regularly so I must have understood some of it.

Amazing healthy lifestyle podcast

Dr. Matt really knows his stuff. If you are into Keto or just into being healthy period, there’s nothing out there like this! Thanks for this show.

Great find!

Just started listening to this podcast after doing a search for Amy Berger. What a great find! Interesting to hear a dentists perspective on health. The mouth is an often overlooked aspect of health; and one of the most important. A good dentist is not just a "tooth doctor" but a doctor of the mouth. The health of our mouth correlates to the health of the body. Health of the mouth and airway are paramount. This doc gets it and is worth a listen.
