Thrivecast 16 -- A Tale of Two Closets

Thrivecast 16 -- A Tale of Two Closets

This video was recorded for a large pharmaceutical company and its employees as a part of their National Coming Out Day activities. It was for internal use only but with a little editing, I can also share it with you! It shares a bit of my journey of coming to realize I was gay at a young age, coming out in the '80s, going into the church closet in the '90s until 2015, and coming back out. If you have ever struggled with who you are for a long time, because of religious reasons, take a listen. See if you can relate. If you know of a religious person who has a difficult time with this topic or thinks of one while you are listening to my story, consider sharing this with them.

ThriveCast #15 -- How To Approach Negative Analysis of Trans Journeys

ThriveCast #15 -- How To Approach Negative Analysis of Trans Journeys

This week we are honored to have our newest Thrive LGBTQ+ Board Members, Stephanie Preston Hughes, LHMC, on the ThriveCast. We will be discussing an article by Dr. Ryan T. Anderson that ex-gay/conservative activists are using to stigmatize trans people. We talk about the study in question, the full context, and why biased analysis like this should really be put in its proper context. We also have some encouragement for our Trans viewers who may have been discouraged in their journey because of these types of articles.

Stephanie's Bio -- Stephanie is a skilled therapist serving Orlando, Orange County, and the greater Central Florida area. She is eager to bring to work for you her many years of experience with conducting initial assessments, providing individual counseling, facilitating support groups, presenting educational workshops, and supervising graduate students. While Stephanie specializes in care for the LGBTQ+ community, people in active recovery, and those who have been hurt by religion, she loves working with all kinds of clients. Whether you are seeking help for depression, anxiety, gender transition, or supporting a loved one, you will be welcomed with a genuinely warm but direct approach.

ThriveCast #14 with Suzanne & Diane DeWitt Hall Discussing Suzanne's New Book, "Sex With God"

ThriveCast #14 with Suzanne & Diane DeWitt Hall Discussing Suzanne's New Book, "Sex With God"

You are not going to want to miss this ThriveCast! We talk about sex and inviting the Divine into some of the most intimate moments of our lives. Suzanne has just released her latest book, "Sex With God" and it is already receiving rave reviews and of course some backlash from the usual places.

From the "Sex With God" description; "Involving God in your sex life may sound scandalous, but sexuality was designed by our creator and is saturated with the very being of God. So why not invite the divine in? The concept may feel awkward at first, because we’ve been trained by purity culture and centuries of mistrust of our bodies and our desires. But God wants to be part of all we do. God is already there when you are naked with your beloved. God is within you, and within them, and between you both. Be brave. Enter into that presence. You have the power to transform sex into worship of God, with God." So watch the video on the Thrive LGBTQ Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/thrivelgbt this Thursday 8/13/20 at 8 PM and chime in on the comments. We will be there to engage the conversation and look forward to seeing you!
