KOLLOK 1991 : The BETTER Stranger Things.

The reason for the title will come momentarily but let’s get to the basics of the show. Originally live on Twitch.tv, a live gaming streaming site then later posting on YouTube, Kollok 1991 tells the story of 4 teenagers who are different from one another ala Breakfast Club all connected by the disappearance of Rachel Jewell. The more they discover, the more they enter into multiple dimensions, conspiracies with a Ivory tower organization and super powers. Sure it maybe a dice based system but the way the players and the GM act out the characters feel like your listening to a radio drama. The problem with Stranger Things isn’t the melting pot of 80’s nostalgia fogging up the story they made, but the age of the characters.

Sure anyone can learn to grow up with responsibilities but I feel it doesn’t work well with middle schoolers. However the teenagers in Kollok work because they are that close to adulthood like around the corner that you can’t just wish it to work your way, it’s the heat of the moment and your responsibilities that count down the line. All and all, please go watch the episodes on Twitch and YouTube and listen in on the Apple Podcast app for more.

The GM is incredible with his narration and he himself staying in character. The cast is amazing with theirs decisions and actions. All around, Kollok 1991 is very entertaining and draws you in from minute 1.

We begin again, with another amazing TTRPG

Using the Kids on Bikes system as a guide and a wholly unique world, Kollok 1991 does something truly special with TTRPGs. The show blends many different movies and TV shows you are familiar with (Stranger Things, Twin Peaks, Goonies, etc) with improvised storytelling driven by one of the best Game Masters out there, Zac Eubank. The results vary from hilarious (talking squirrels), scary (creepy goo monsters), and heartbraking (lost parents and loved ones). But at the end of the day, the Season 1 cast of Andre Meadows, Lucas Eubank, Meghan "Strawburry17" Camarena, and Shelby "Shubble" Graces show how inspiration and joy can come even in the darkest of places. Andre and Meghan's characters have graduated from weekly appearances, but don't be discouraged. Season 2 will be introducing guest players Mika Midgett, Aabria Iyengar, and Matt Sohinki to full time cast. If you haven't already started this podcast, I highly recommend you catch up ASAP! You will not regret it.
