    7. Learn to Say Yes

    7. Learn to Say Yes

For years and years, I never said no.

I hate to disappoint people. I’m pretty much a people pleaser, and hate to see people upset. “No” was not really in my vocabulary when I started business.

BUT I learned that saying “Yes” to everyone else was saying “No” to my family. When I was taking 4 sessions a week or working everyday to please my clients, I was saying no to my kids. I was saying no to my family I was saying no to making dinner. I was saying no to cleaning the house.

There are a few simple ways to say YES to your family that don’t require the NO word.
    1. Specialize in what brings you joy, makes the most income &what you’re best at
    2. Raise your prices
    3. Schedule family days, work days and shoot days

    6. Interview with owner of Mebie Baby, Audrey Thompson - Building a Brand

    6. Interview with owner of Mebie Baby, Audrey Thompson - Building a Brand

My goal of this podcast is to empower MOMS to be the best business owners and mothers they can be. There’s no better way to do that than to bring on some of my favorite moms in business.

Audrey Thompson has been a friend of mine since I took her family pictures seven years ago.

Between annual family pictures, weekly photoshoots and sometimes daily business chat, we have become great friends.

When Audrey launched Mebie Baby, she had four swaddles…and now she has built an empire that is seen and sought after everywhere.

Through these past several years I’ve watched Audrey jump over hurtles of name changes, announcing that she was the face of her business to her family and friends after growing to 50k, industry copy cats and more.

I am so excited for you guys to hear more about how Mebie Baby got started, what her goals were and how she is balancing her business with her family.

Where did your journey as an entrepreneur start?

    5. Being Personal is Not about Sharing your Stretch Marks online

    5. Being Personal is Not about Sharing your Stretch Marks online

When I first started marketing my business online, I stuck to professional, drab style posts.
I realized that if I wanted people to connect to me, I had to be personal. In order to stand out in a saturated crowd, I needed to be different.

I WANT TO TEACH YOU SOMETHING THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR BUSINESS TODAY.

    One simple phrase: BE PERSONAL.

The biggest transformations I see in my marketing class students, through those that take 90 days of marketing and my one on one mentoring clients were in the entrepreneurs that went from being all business to creating a personality based business.

And though some prompts were clearly very challenging for those that had never been personal, the results were life changing in many cases. It opens new doors and opportunities, but most importantly connects you with your perfect target client.

And when I say perfect target client. Its not about looks, or status, or popularity. Its about finding clients that love YOU for you, your style, your experience, your skill.

You don’t have to share every inner thought to be personal.
I’m not saying you can’t. But you don’t have to.
Simply be yourself and share your interests.
You will attract clients that match your vibe.

    4. My #1 Secret to Real Business Success

    4. My #1 Secret to Real Business Success

My #1 Secret to Real Business Success

In my decade as an entrepreneur I have seen businesses start and stop, launch and fail over and over. Its one of those things every entrepreneur likes to say “1 in 5 businesses fail in the first 5 years, and then 90% after that and then 90% after that, and then 90% after that.” And I’m not mocking those statistics. I can see why.

They aren’t failing because they’re bad at what they do. They’re failing because they stop showing up. I’m not the best at what I do and don’t have to be the best. I’m not the best photographer. I’m not the best mentor. I’m not the best business owner. I’m not the best podcaster. But I show up everyday. And thats all it takes. Because 90% of your competition won’t.

I have seen this in my own businesses with Maskcara. In my first year in my make up business I got the award for top 20 enrollees in the company without knowing much at all about make up. Then photography picked up and I stopped posting about business. It wasn’t a priority. And while it didn’t totally kill the business and I still get orders from my clients monthly, I am not growing. I went from thousands of dollars a month to hundreds. Did the make up change? Did my skills change? No. I stopped showing up.

You want your business to grow? Do the work. Daily. Be consistent. Show up. Be faithful in the small things until the big things come

    3. How to Propel your Business Forward

    3. How to Propel your Business Forward

When I started my business, I did everything myself. I was the one-woman amateur show. I just did what everyone else was doing. I didn’t know why they were doing what they were doing. I didn’t know if it even worked. But I did it anyway.

    A few things I didn’t realize…

    - If I was doing what everyone else was doing, I was never going to stand out.
    - Investing in education was expensive but cut down my learning curve by years which makes me more profitable
    - The more I invest in learning new things, the faster I would grow.

I am a part of a bundle right now that is YOUR chance to propel your business forward by years, too. 72 courses for $100, with a savings of $18,000.

    2. Give your All to your Kids, and your All to your Business

    2. Give your All to your Kids, and your All to your Business

Let’s talk about mom guilt. Bleh. It’s the worst. I used to feel guilty when I worked too much then I felt guilty when I wasn’t working because I should have been more productive with that time.I used to feel guilty when my house was a mess then I would feel guilty when I would clean my house instead of playing with my kids. And then of course the guilt that came when the house was clean and I would get after the kids for every little mess.Sometimes I’m too harsh. Sometimes I way to lax. Guilt. Guilt. Guilt.

Nothing has changed. I still have days where I work too much and days where I don’t work enough. I still over-clean, under-clean, over-discipline, under-discipline. The only thing that has changed it LETTING GO OF GUILT.

I had a realization that I’m a working mom because I choose to be a working mom. And I choose to work because I love to work. And also, whether I work or not, this mom gig is hard. And I’m not perfect. And I can’t do all the things everyday.
I chose to let go of mom guilt, shame and society’s expectations (past and current) of what a mom should or shouldn’t be. And I choose to live my best life. For me, and for my family.

I chose this, and I love it. My family is one of the biggest reasons I push myself through the hard times to keep building this empire. We learn, grow and experience this world together.

Whether you’re a WAHM, SAHM, WM or whatever other combination of MOM, you’re doing what you were born to do. And your acronym may change from time to time, but the point is…let go of the guilt..and live. Your kids are watching. You are their hero no matter what you choose.

Learn how I learned to give my all to my work, and my all to my kids.

NOT JUST FOR MOMS!

This podcast is full of so much information and help for juggling life as a business owner! Wether you have kids at home or not, it outlines the best strategies to focus on your business and keep up with the rest
Of life!

My husband and I are planning to start a family in the next few years and I feel like I have an expiration date on life as we know it now and I have been a little hesitant, but this podcast inspires me to not fear the future and gives me the confidence to know that I can still enjoy working and being a mom at the same time and not have to give up on either of those things that I love so much!

Thank you

You’ve kept my business and mental health on point during this quarantine. When I didn’t want to go further, you inspired me to get it done! Thank you, thank you!

Also, I am so much more alert ever since focusing on WORK and KIDS separate instead of trying to do it at the same time! Where was this advise the past 6 years of Mom-boss-life?!

Amazing Business and Motherhood Tips!

I soak up every word Kylee says because she’s a rockstar at everything she does. Not only is she an incredibly gifted photographer who helps small brands and shops grow through *amazing* imagery and a wonderful educator—she’s also a mom like me. Sometimes being a mompreneur can be a very lonely, solo journey. The way Kylee teaches makes it feel like she’s your best friend sitting down on your couch for a chat. I love her honestly, vulnerability, and that she doesn’t hold back while still keeping things short and to the point. 10/10 would recommend!!
