Captain Aaron Singh Bio

Captain Aaron Singh has been sailing for the last 25 years on a wide variety of Tall Ships of Americamember and commercial passenger vessels. His love for being on the water began aboard a Sea Scoutship sailing out of City Island in the Bronx, NY. As so many sailors before him, the volunteerprogram at South Street Seaport Museum introduced him to schooners and subsequently led him tocommand every vessel that has operated out of South Street Seaport from a 600 passenger high speedferries to wooden tug boats to Gloucester fishing schooners. In 2010, Captain Singh joined theteaching staff at the New York Harbor School on Governors Island and created a three-year NewYork State certified Maritime Career and Technical Education Program for Vessel Operations. Theprogram offers hands on practical training in one of the busiest Harbors in the United States. Manystudents enter the workforce on commercial vessels or choose to attend a Maritime Colleges oftenpursuing seagoing careers. In addition to his teaching duties, he serves as the school’s WaterfrontDirector overseeing marine operations on Governors Island and the Brooklyn Navy Yard for avariety of historic and modern training vessels. When he’s not in the classroom you can find himhiking, biking, sailing and road tripping with his amazing seagoing family.



New York Harbor School Sophomore Vessel Operations in New York City

This program prepares students for careers as licensed deck crews, as well as serving as a stepping stone into management and operations positions aboard small passenger vessels and commercial towing units. Vessel operations students will receive extensive theoretical and practical training in navigation, boat handling, seamanship, safety and industry rules and standards. Students train on the school’s vessels and through internships in the marine field during their last two years in the program. Internships will provide excellent opportunities to apply for positions upon graduation.
