Bakes in Bloom with Amy Thornley

Bakes in Bloom with Amy Thornley

Today we have the lovely Amy from Bakes in Bloom.

Bakes in Bloom is Amy’s cupcake business, in the heart of Rugeley, Staffordshire, specializing in transforming cupcakes into edible flowers.  Over 4 years ago, Amy decided to give herself a break from her job as an Assistant Psychologist.

She didn’t really know what she wanted to do, however, one day she literally had that ‘’lightbulb moment’’. Amy had never heard of cupcake bouquets until she was trying to think of a present for her mum's birthday. Cupcake flowers just popped into Amy’s head, and she decided to run with it – because homemade presents are the best and she was skint!
Amy decided to set up a Facebook page to see if there would be anyone interested in buying some of her cupcakes. 5 years later and the business has gone from strength to strength, and she now has over 15k followers on Instagram.
However, it wasn’t all happy days for Amy when one day she found out that another baker, had stolen her business name. Unfortunately, Amy had not trademarked her business name so in the eyes of the law; she didn’t have a leg to stand on.

Tune in to hear Amy's story and see how she handled the situation.

Head Of Thinking & Possibilities - Ian Rummels

Head Of Thinking & Possibilities - Ian Rummels

Our special guest today is Ian Rummels, the proud founder of two separate businesses with different audiences and missions, but with two things in common: Ian as the creator, and the shared desire to develop happy, motivated employees.

Having spent 14 years at Ernst & Young heading up their employer services business, in 2001 Ian founded PES, an award-winning business specialising in employee benefits, wellbeing and HR services. It was here that his passion to bring exceptional digital employee engagement tools to the masses began. After years of using sub-standard employee benefits platforms, that passion took over, and Ian decided to build his own!

Ian quickly realised that PES wasn’t the only employee benefits company to be fed up with the standard of technology available. So, in 2019, Cloud8 was formed - a software business that now owns the technology and licences it to other EBCs and intermediaries.

Ian handed over the CEO reigns in both businesses, moving into a founder & visionary position. Ian has more free time to work with other first time entrepreneurs and CEOs which enables him to share his experience, giving people the benefit of learning from his mistakes along the way... It's been quite a journey for Ian!

    Celebrity Trademark Tales

    Celebrity Trademark Tales

In this weeks podcast, Lauren & Shannon discuss Celebrity Trademark battles & some strange things celebrities have tried to trademark in the past; some successful, others not so much!

Can you believe that Mariah Carey launched a liquor, didn't trademark the name and then ended up in a legal trademark dispute with an established Irish drinks company with a similar name?  She definitely lives up to being a diva!

We also cover a certain BrewDog speciality aptly named ‘Elvis Juice'. In 2016, Authentic Brands Group (ABG), who essentially own Elvis Presleys ‘rights’ (including the name), entered into a bit of a legal battle with BrewDog because of the Elvis Juice beer.

Listen to find out what happened

    Human Design with Lauren Kay

    Human Design with Lauren Kay

This week we have  Lauren Kay on the podcast to chat about her journey from big-firm lawyer to Human Design Guide.

Lauren, Human Design Guide, creator of the Legally Different Podcast and former Big Law lawyer is now a legal consultant and advocate of the WFA (work from anywhere) movement and she is passionate about aligning with freedom, passion, and purpose in the business world. She talks about the path she took in life to get to where she is now.

Lauren took the very traditional route in the law world. She qualified as a lawyer and worked for large companies in Leeds and London. Lauren felt lucky but was unsatisfied with her life. ''Soul Nudges'' were a regular occurrence in her life and one day she finally took the leap and followed those nudges. Lauren found Human Design and incorporated it into her everyday life - a tangible system that can be applied to work, life, business and relationships, to help others to embody and embrace their purpose in life.

Fast forward to the Legally Different Podcast; Lauren wanted to create space to showcase pioneering lawyers being their unique selves and breaking the mould in some way to inspire other lawyers and professionals.

This is the link where people can look up their own human design chart…
