Wonderful stuff

Linguistics brought to you in a fun package. McWhorter is a great storyteller and punctuates a technical subject with humor, musical recordings, and other audio props. You never know his topic, but it’s interesting and fun.

Needs more linguistics...

The actual linguistics part of this podcast are great. Problem is, the host spends a big chunk of the podcast talking about things that have nothing to do with the topic at hand or even about language at all. Often it’s whatever old musical or showtune he can shoehorn into the podcast and play at length. It’s honestly weird, the occasional musical digression would be fine but when you have dozens of reviews mentioning how many random old songs there are it’s probably time to tone it down.

I love the old recordings!

I love the glee and excitement and appreciate hearing the music and language. Like taking a class with an excellent prof, the enthusiasm is contagious, every lecture is well researched, primary sources shared where appropriate!
