    • Careers

Today we sit down with national treasure, Rick Hansen. Rick became a hero to those with disabilities and an inspiration to the world when he embarked on his famous Man in Motion World Tour. Inspired by Terry Fox, he not only crossed Canada in a wheelchair - he crossed the entire globe to demonstrate the limitless potential of those with disabilities. Before becoming a household name, Rick represented Canada in the 1980 and 1984 Paralympic Games, winning three gold, two silver and one bronze medal. Today, he is Founder of the Rick Hansen Foundation, an organization that has raised over $360 million dollars and has delivered programs that have heightened awareness, changed attitudes and improved the quality of life for people with disabilities. In 2006, he was inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame.  In this episode, we catch up with Rick in his hometown of Vancouver to talk about who inspired him to see the positive side after his devastating accident, his relationship with Canadian legend Terry Fox and the amazing story of how he became the inspiration behind the top 80's song, "Saint Elmo's Fire".
