Lift Heavy Run Long® #205, we had the pleasure of sitting down with our friend, Michael Hirons. Michael is a resident of Wynn, Arkansas and an advocate of the trail running community. At one point in time, Michael weighted almost 400lbs before making some changes in his nutrition and buying a bike. It wasn't long before he found himself shedding some lbs and feeling comfortable enough to try his hand at running. After a few 5ks, he had caught the bug. It wasn't long until he complete his first trail run at the Sylamore 25k and decided to put on a race of his own as the Race Director of Village Creek 10K/25K. Village Creek just finished up it's 8th year and the first annual Almira 50miler and marathon will take place on May 1, 2021.

We are fortunate to get to spend time with folks like Michael and look forward to many years and many trail miles with him in the future. We enjoyed some great conversation before inevetbly jumping the tracks and veering into ridiculousville...

Here is what the LHRL podcast derailed looked like:

    - Swift n Swole event 2022

    - Do you clip tags off ur clothes, bite them or rip them.

    - Amanda called Grimmace, Hummus off McDonald’s

    - Ted Lasso

    - When do you say dinner and/or supper?

    Thanks for tuning in!

    Attention

2022 Swift and Swole to benefit the Chris Hope Foundation is in the works. We are looking to organize a 12-hour endurance event consisting of teams acquiring miles and reps in a fun and friendly competition involving as many active people and fitness organizations as we can find. LHRL® is a community and this event will serve to strengthen the community and include as many different people as possible within it. Get ready, cause it is gonna be .

The LHRL® App has been submitted to the Slack store for approval. I worked really, really hard on it. There is much to be desired in it's functionality but I believe it is a pretty good start and it could be useful to help individuals accomplish their goals. You can check it out here:

Check out the podcast to get the skinny on things but just remember that the 2022 Swift and Swole event is in the works and it's going to be huge.

    -FB is watching. It's amazing.

-Spring weather is here!! Life is good

    -Will Fall races be post-covid-normal?

    -Useless knowledge:

London cabbies have to memorize literally everything.

If you take a taxicab in London, you can expect the driver to know exactly where they are going, since they are required to take a series of tests known as The Knowledge. These require them to study 320 routes and 25,000 streets, not to mention 20,000 landmarks and places of public interest—estimated to take as long as four years to fully complete.

    Sears used to sell houses.

Before every city had a Walmart, most Americans got their stuff from mail-order catalogs, such as Sears. Among its many, many offerings were so-called "kit houses," or entire homes that were shipped on a train. You had to assemble the house yourself using the 75-page instruction book. It was like Ikea on steroids.

There's an encrypted monument outside the CIA.

A sculpture outside CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, fittingly includes uncracked codes. Created by artist Jim Sanborn, the sculpture features four inscriptions, three of which have been cracked, but the forth is still a mystery. (Though in 2010 the artist offered one clue: The letters NYPVTT are an encryption of the word BERLIN.)

This week we had our friend and personal trainer sit down with us and talk a little bit about his home gym and that came to fruition. With COVID being what it is, we couldn't help but notice that Todd was gaining an internet presence with he and some of his clients working out in a pretty plush garage gym. We decided to bring him into the studio to visit with him about how he put his together.

On top of all of this fun we also had our regular shenanigans and ran through a few other items as follows:

    * We finally got a review. Hallelujah!* Andrew Causey got us an amazing gift basket for episode 200.* 'Flack' comes from the German word 'Fliegerabwehrkanonen. ' Pilots under fire must have needed a shorter word. When you hear of someone "catching flack," you're hearing a figurative extension of a term used for antiaircraft guns, or for the shells fired from them.* Most elephants weigh less than the tongue of a blue whale.* If you were going to be a super hero in the LHRL Universe, would you have super strength or super speed? - Sam Renfrow* If you could only eat one variety of food for the rest of your life, would it be of the savory variety or sweet? -Crystal Landers* If you could live in the water or on land, which would you choose? -Steve Monsanto* If you could only pic one activity between lifting and running Which would it be, and why? -Jeff Wehling

Two thumbs up

I'm a runner/lifter in Seattle area. I found your podcast by way of your 2017 documentary about the Tunnel Hill 50/100 you posted on YouTube. That video is one of the very few that I enjoy re-watching, and your podcast never fails to inspire and entertain. Keep up the great work!

I've never left a review for anything on the internet, but I just had to this time. I found LHRL because I'm a longtime lifter and shorter-time runner. I was looking for some source that would help me balance the two since most people tend to tell you that you have to do one or the other. I found the LHRL facebook page and felt like it was exactly what I was looking for. Then, I realized that these people had a podcast and I was hooked. I love this podcast and I love listening on my runs. I laugh out loud multiple times per episode and I'm sure I look like a crazy person on the trails, but I don't even care! Wilson, Amanda, Von, and Brian feel like my own private running group once a week. Thanks for continuing to do what you do, guys! I also feel like I have to qualify that I don't know these folks outside of this podcast, but I feel like I do!
