#1. Lino and Jane Stanchich: Chewing is the Prescription for Success The Healthy Peaceful Podcast

    • Alternative Health

Noreen interviews Lino and Jane Stanchich, health counselors and teachers on the importance of chewing food well to overall health and vitality.  Author of Power Eating Program, You are How You Eat, Lino describes his father's discovery as a prisoner of a German concentration camp during World War II.  Faced with bitterly cold winters and hardly any clothing to keep warm, his father "chewed" his water in order to warm it up and discovered that it not only warmed his body, but increased his strength, physically and mentally, such that he was able to endure the camp's horrendous conditions.  He expanded this experiment to the minimal food rations he received and, along with two prisoners who joined him in his chewing experiments, he managed to survive.  Of the 32 prisoners in his barracks, they were the only survivors.  Lino remembered his father's words:  "Whenever you are sick, lonely, tired, depressed, remember to chew - chewing will increase your vitality, well-being, strength.  You will feel happier, more hopeful and optimistic and good fortune will find you."

Just a few years later, at the age of 19, Lino was imprisoned as regions of post-World War II Italy were reconfigured and subjected to communist rule.  Lino attributes the courage and strength he derived from chewing his food well to being able to endure two years of hard labor.

After emigrating to the U.S., Lino went into the restaurant business and eventually owned several successful restaurants in New Jersey.  He stumbled upon macrobiotics when a restaurant patron, upon seeing Lino chewing, commented, "You must be macrobiotic".  With no knowledge of macrobiotics, he discovered what was then the Cauldron Macrobiotic Restaurant in NYC and started working in its kitchen, eventually departing New York and New Jersey for Boston.  In Boston, he immersed himself in macrobiotic teachings and exchanged meat and dairy for a plant-based diet and more balanced approach to living, one that encouraged living in harmony with nature's rhythms.  What eventually emerged was a new way of life and in the intervening decades, Lino has dedicated his work to helping people heal and teaching the principles of optimum health.

In this episode, Lino and Jane share ecovery stories of clients who have healed by adopting a chewing regimen and the science behind these seeming "chewing miracles".  They also address current topics such as the U.S. epidemic of chronic disease and how simple strategies can help people transform their health.  They touch on COVID-19 and describe how their approaches to wellness can offer protection during these challenging times.  This is definitely an episode "you can chew on".  Enjoy!
