#6 - Interview with UK Indie Artist & Songwriter Waiting For Smith

#6 - Interview with UK Indie Artist & Songwriter Waiting For Smith

Carolyn Oakley interviews UK Indie Artist Harry Lloyd who is the creative force behind Waiting For Smith.  Original from London, Harry is currently living in Amsterdam when we spoke to him about his latest single, Tidal Wave, from his forthcoming EP titled - Trying Not To Try.

It's the start of November 2022 and Waiting for Smith is in the rounds promoting his latest single and rehearsing with a full band, for the EPs launch show, which will be taking place at The Waiting Room in London on the 24th November.

Harry is a multiple instrumentalist and songwriter and decided on a career in music following a skiing accident which left him injured with a broken back and in bed for a year.  Harry saw this, not as an ending but an opportunity to change direction and take a career in music seriously.

Waiting for Smiths music and lyrics from his latest EP shows a depth of songwriting that very much reflects Harrys perspective of life.  He writes for his own therapy and hopes his music helps others who may also go through hard times.  He believes that even when you can't always see it,  there is always reason for hope and a silver lining, we've just got to keep going sometimes to find it.

Waiting For Smith has landed radio play on over 190 stations around the world including receiving support from Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 1, Dermot O'Leary and Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 2 and Tom Robinson on BBC 6 Music.  His music has landed sync placements on Netflix and on TV in both Germany and Spain and received praise from the music industry press including British GQ,  Rolling stone India, MTV Germany and Clash Magazine.

#4 - Interview with UK Ambient-Folk Artist Ollie Dixon

#4 - Interview with UK Ambient-Folk Artist Ollie Dixon

Carolyn Oakley interviews UK ambient-folk artist Ollie Dixon.  Ollie is an independent artist and songwriter based in Devon and is currently in the process of releasing a brand new EP of songs, including the already released singles 'Islands', 'St Anges' and 'Drifting' when I met with him to talk about his songwriting and music journey so far.

Ollie started out after leaving college early to pursue his career in music.  Initially performing his songs at local open mic nights, he quickly progressed to create and release his first EP in 2019, booking his own gigs and being asked to play at different music festivals.  The 2020 pandemic saw live music opportunities come to a halt and he was forced to pause and reflect on the music he was creating.

Meeting his band members, Lee Crowd and Rach Adamson and teaming up with a producer Rich Stockley, Ollie is now taking his music into a new  direction with a brand new EP, set to be released later in 2022.  The lead off singles from the EP are already being picked up in the new music press, blogs and being supported by BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio.   Ollie is now very much back on the touring circuit, performing at a number of the UK summer festivals and being asked to support a number of artists and bands this coming autumn.

We discuss the challenges faced being an independent artist in the 2020s but also how far you can go when you are creating the music you love and working along side people who help and inspire you to create the best music you can and how important it is to appreciate the ride, friendships and moments that working in music can bring.

If you would like to hear more of Ollie's music  or find out where he will next be performing live - you can find and follow Ollie on his social media channels, Bandcamp, YouTube, Spotify and Instagram etc.  Links are here:

Based in London, Beth started her career as an artist and songwriter after leaving university. Initially exploring her love of Country music and establishing herself in the UK Country Music Scene.  Through the recent UK lockdowns, Beth had time to reflect on her direction as an artist and has discovered that her true passion for songwriting is through creating great Pop songs with lyrics about love, relationships and human experiences.
