Lo-Fi Special: Bricks (aka Jesus Against the Cosmic Forces of Evil)

Lo-Fi Special: Bricks (aka Jesus Against the Cosmic Forces of Evil)

In the words of the late great theologian, Stanley Lieber: "With great power comes great responsibility." Unfortunately, for thousands of years, kings, pharaohs, chiefs, businessmen, presidents, and priests have destroyed paradise to make a palace for themselves. Some even did so in the name of their God. Our world groans and longs for heroes, but they seem hard to find.In Luke 4, a new king arrives and has to make the decision: will he use his great power for himself, or for the others? And it's a moment that will determine the fate of the universe.
I was recently invited to speak at Trinity Heights Methodist Church in Flagstaff, AZ, and this is the story I had for us. I hope you enjoy it!

    Lo-Fi Kitchen - Luke 17

    Lo-Fi Kitchen - Luke 17

Let's dig into Luke's Jesus and think about our weird human obsession with the end of the world - with the afterlife, judgment, and mercy - and ask ourselves - what if it's all just a waste of our time? What if we could be free from our fears and anxiety and invest ourselves fully in the good life and work we have today? Come into the kitchen and let Jesus confuse the Hell out of you for half an hour.
Should be fun. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Grateful and in Wonder

Kevin has a unique manner of reading a story which often causes confusion and disparates among people —A story which at its essence is quite the opposite! This teachings and podcast came to me at a much needed moment to listen them. I hope you can find gratitude in the wonder that Kevin brings to this beautiful stories. Thank you Kevin! I hope all is well! :)

Still an Awesome Podcast!

I still look forward to this podcast every week! I have been in churches and Bible Studies for years and still have had so many questions - especially Why? Why did this happen? Why did God allow this? Why were the people like this? Kevin has helped me to understand all the unspoken history and perspectives that have led me to greater understanding of the text AND even helped me reach peace with certain passages that have troubled me for years. Kevin has been responsive to my questions when I even need to go deeper. Other podcasts have burned me out after a while and I find I need to take breaks but I continue to look forward to Lo-fi Lectionary each week! Thanks, Kevin!

Lo-fi is Bomb!

Kevin reads through the book of Luke in the Bible as a story, asking what the characters' actions reflect about their character and why these stories are still being told today. His knowledge of history and literature serve to enrich the Bible-reading experience of his listeners. Truly for the religiously burnt-out (although I can't speak for the spiritually curious).
